Hello World.
Harrison and Owen here!
Um why should I care?
So why are we starting a Steemit exclusive book publishing company? Why does it matter? Why do books matter? Why does anything matter? Who am I? Yikes.... not the direction I wanted to take this...
We are two creators. I am an artist (Harrison) and Owen is a writer. Wait why am I writing this, why not Owen? I think he’s sleeping? You see we’ve been working for weeks on developing this idea, but as with any good storyteller first lets start with a bit of a backstory.
A brief history of us.
I’m just an artist from NYC. I’ve gone and done anything from designing and starting a Donald Trump political toy (donniethepoo.com) to working with refugees in Syria (harrisonbruhn.com). I’m currently working on a concrete sculpture about the prison industrial complex, 2 mobile games and a networking app. The kind of guy with 20 projects going at once.
Owen Abbott is writer in based in Chicago. He was part of the Birch Reincliff Art collective in 2016, which was featured in the Chicago Tribune, Al Jazeera, and DNAinfo for its artistic pieces. An avid reader and steemit enthusiast, he lives in Chicago with his two dogs. Owen is currently finishing his novel.
We decided to come to Steemit for 3 reasons.
Creating is what wakes us up in the morning. It's what makes our mind and bodies move.
The community itself seems absolutely amazing. It truly does appear original and thought provoking content gets rewarded on Steemit, which is more than exciting.
We're also BROKE AS F#$@!#.
A Steemit exclusive.
We love the idea of creating a new ecosystem for creators to thrive. Hopefully this is the right decision. I guess we will know soon if anyone cares out there. Cheers mates and happy reading!
The great thing is the better the content the more valuable Steemit becomes!
Power to the creators!
So how does an online book get made and what do we mean by Steemit exclusive book publishing company?
Exactly what we just said! We'll start out exclusively on Steemit and see where this wonderful journey takes us.
Steps to create a Knell book.
We head to both the internet and book stores across the state.
We find rare and ancient books.
We read them and then decide if they’re right for the platform.
Side note: Our favorite books right now are Science Fiction, Horror and Crime!
Once a story is picked we make sure we are able to use the book as to not cause any copyright issues.
The searching commences as we look through old books and online databases for all images circa 1945 - usually around the late 1800s is what we settle on.
Designing the layout as we then turn the images into GIFs.

Release into the universe.
Knell Books Roadmap:
April 1st - We will release 2 books a day. Remember books are separated into mutiple parts.
May 1st - We will release “Author Break Time.” A series on some of the great unknown authors of the past.
June 1st - We will start publishing Steemit Authors.
July 1st- We will set up a voting system for books for us to design from the community.
Examples of our books.
The Game of Rats and Dragon written by Cordwainer Smith
Time Enough at Last written by Lynn Venable
Should we?
Owen and I are debating quitting our jobs to really make this thing shine and churn out as much quality content as we can. Let us know in the comments and if you liked of course give us an up vote! :)
Have a fantastic day and thanks for checking us out! Journey on people!
Bringing old, out of print books back into circulation as ebooks is a great idea. One company already doing this is Open Road Media (Twitter: @OpenRoadMedia) openroadmedia.com
See @isleofwrite, publishing five anthologies, poetry and short stories from Steemit authors. There is room for more than one publisher - look at the sheer quantity of fiction, art, comics, music, and more here at Steemit. Good luck!

Will you sell books with transactions via Steemit wallets?
Do you have proofreaders and editors?
Who curates fiction for quality, marketability, originality, and such?
Cool idea!
Your sample pages look artsy and contemporary. And that's cool, but I'm more than half a century old, with bifocals, so I like black font and no (or minimal) visual distractions. (Just me. Disregard.)
Would you buy up ISBN numbers in lots? That takes $$ up front. Letting Amazon assign a free ISBN will limit where the books can be sold. (So I'm told.) Again - cool idea! Lots of expenses to consider (advertising, author royalties), but I hope you'll be able to give up those day jobs to make this happen.

Hey hey! So we aren't going to sell our books individually as of now. We have thought about turning them into physical zines though. Some cool ideas though!!!

"Startup seeks to ‘illuminate’ writers’ publishing path" http://www.columbiachronicle.com/arts_and_culture/article... via @CCChronicle
Illuminovel—a market research platform for writers - lets authors submit partial manuscripts to more than 500 volunteer readers who provide feedback .... Illuminovel reader Owen Abbott said he has high hopes that the service will change the writing industry’s views because publishers frequently go for very similar, generic stories.
“A lot of the publishing industry is out of touch with the market,” ....

Sounds reasonable:
$50 for a query letter review, $75 for a manuscript review or $100 for both. "The feedback authors will receive from Illuminovel is transferable to future projects, Ancrum said, because the areas that readers look at are important to any work." - columbiachronicle.com
