The Kurds or the Kurdish people, are an ethnic group in the Middle East ( Kurdistan ), mostly inhabiting a contiguous area spanning adjacent parts of

1-southeastern Turkey,

2-northwestern Iran,

3-northern Iraq, and

4-northern Syria.

Population

The Kurds are estimated to number anywhere from a low of 30 million, to possibly as high as 50 million

Iraq: estimates from 6 to 9 million;
Turkey: estimates from 16 to 22 million;
Syria: estimates from 3 to 4 million,
Iran: estimates from 9 million to 12 million

History of The Kurds

The Kurdish people are an ethnic group that originated in the Middle East. The Kurds speakers of Kurdish languages, and share a similar cultural identity. At the same time, there is a diverse range of Kurdish political movements, reflecting the fact that the Kurdistan region is divided between four different countries
Turkey,
Iraq,
Syria and
Iran.

The Kurdish people are adherents to a large number of different religions and creeds, perhaps constituting the most religiously diverse people of West Asia. Traditionally, Kurds have been known to take great liberties with their practices.
