Those who already know me would tell you that I am a man of many hats, with a career in media and rights spanning 20 years. My latest hat, is that of a Policy Consultant at the Community Media Advocacy Centre (www.cmacentre.org)
CMAC is an Internationally active not-for-profit, that supports self-determination in Indigenous and community media through research, relationship-building, advocacy, and learning. We aim to help create decolonized, participatory, representative, non-profit, sustainable community and Indigenous media. We do our work globally, but are based in Canada, where we have been active at the Canadian communications regulator, the CRTC, advocating for community, indigenous, ethnic, and disAbility media rights and help license establishments that deliver on these communities' rights and aspirations.
You can read many of our critical submissions to the CRTC on CMAC's website, enjoy the reads. Believe me Media Policy Activism can be sexy! watch this CMAC presentation at the Media Action Research Group conference, for proof
more proof of how Media Policy Activism is sexy can be found during the question period!
I will try to update you on CMAC work at world communications regulators. like the CRTC in Canada and IFT in Mexico, as well as the UNESCO; as often as I can. I believe media policy and regulation literacy is one of the most important, and least discussed, issues in the media advocacy circles.
My other hats, always related to my media work, are Palestinian and Arab Liberation, as well as Indigenous Liberation and decolonization. In general, my work is anchored in anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism, and the media battle to achieve these goals.
See you soon!
