Introducing myself

My story

To my fellow steemians, a hearty greeting to you all.

I did not know that I was supposed to have done an introduce yourself when starting off so this is my second ever post introducing myself.

In this post I thought I would like to share some of my rather unfortunate misadventures so that if anyone in a situation similar mine, could see where I went wrong and hopefully rectify some aspects of their lives.

Not that my life is in shambles or anything at present, things have worked out for me due to the grace of god.

Without further ado, let us begin my tale.

So … everything went downhill for me in my final year of high school, I fell so deeply in love with this girl and got played, partied and messed around too much. Overall, I was a very immature person … looking back, I wish I could have gone back in time just to hit myself on the head and set me straight with some stern words

Wish I could've knocked my lights out

I would not say that my marks were that bad in my final year of high school because I did manage to scrape a bachelor’s degree pass and that alone allowed me to enter a reputable university … but sad to say all the partying and apathy had led to my maths and physics marks being in an abysmal state and I was denied access to study my passion for the stars, Astronomy

Things being as they were, I had to settle for a second-rate college I had never heard of in my life and studied systems engineering. At first, I was quite impassioned by the way the lecturer presented each lesson and I did extremely well. I had an aggregate of 97% in my first year.

Then came the pressures of family and family friends and my family’s reputation. I was repeatedly called a “FAILURE” by everyone and I don’t know at what point that got to me and I sunk back into apathy and depression and just cut almost everything and everyone out of my life.

What I felt like ... Alone

In my own home, I felt a stranger and that was the deepest wound for me

When the first semester of the second year of college started, I had no drive at all. I was just so tired of everything and just wanted to feel numb on the inside. I was not used to being made a laughing stock of. All my life, right up until right before the final papers in high school … I was a straight "A" student and was always so consistent and committed to my work, but heartbreak, I’ve never experienced something so painful before and I tried to party away the pain and that cost me my future and the only person I could blame was myself for not being stronger

I failed my second year of college, had heated arguments with my parents and even considered suicide.

I was at the end of my rope with no one there and I was about to accept my fate and live a 3rd rate life with the knowledge knowing if only I just tried harder, wishing I was more emotionally stable, longing for a chance to have my old perfect life back.

It was at my lowest point when I said to myself, “instead of wishing I were stronger, I’ll work on becoming stronger”. I drew up a spider diagram with all the things that were currently possible and set goals for myself. I said to myself, “even though I have no role models or anyone there for me, I by myself am enough. I by myself can do things”.

The very next day I went to my college and begged for another chance and thankfully the college board agreed. It was my second chance at rebuilding my life and I had to make the most of it.

Before college had opened for the third year, I was presented an option, I could redo my second year, or I could write a supplementary exam for all the papers I’ve failed. Naturally I chose the supplementary exam because I did not have a year to waste and I was feeling rather good about myself

Now you have to realise, I failed all my second-year modules and never paid any attention in any lectures, so I was basically going to rewrite all those modules with just bit and pieces of knowledge I picked up.

I was given a moth to prepare as this was in January and college only officially opened in February.

I started my long and gruelling adventure to become greater then my previous self and that has been my motto ever since, “to be better then you were yesterday”. I studied meticulously, not to memorise like I always did, but to understand every concept and be able to apply them in real life. During that month, I never only focus on studying but also focused on getting my health back on track and the most important thing for me was that I got back the confidence I had in myself. I just felt in control of my life, I felt proud.

Ok I was happy ... but without the sombrero

The day of the exam came and oh boy was I nervous. I sat at that table and felt butterflies in my stomach as the exam scripts were passed out. When I finally got the script and opened it. I let out a sigh of relief. I was in control and I was ready.

In total I wrote 7 papers and I may not have scored any distinctions in any of them, it allowed me to proceed to the 3rd year class.

In my 3rd and final year of college, I was driven by my new-found passion and remained committed to my dreams and goals and passed with distinction.

Completing my degree at a college I have never heard of before led my growth as an individual. Also, I had no clue that once I finished my degree there, I would be credited towards studying at a proper university and I am now currently studying towards my honour’s degree in B.Sc. Computer Science.

I made it happen

The lesson that I have learnt and would like to impart is that everything is according to the will of God, he always makes a way even when you see no route to take. All you have to do is just believe enough in yourself to move forward in life because nothing ever happens if you remain in one place all the time. It does not matter what people say about you, its what you do that defines who you are as a person. So be good, do good and speak good.

Please do leave an upvote and comment and follow as it would help greatly in paying off some of my fees and I will follow you back.
