2017 Nostalgia

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

Last few years have been filled with creativity for me. During the last few New Years I wanted to write a short description of what I accomplished within the last 12 months, but never really got to do it. It probably hapened to you too, right? The question "What's the point anyway?" pops into your mind everytime, just before you want to start writing, and that's enough to make you let that plan go. Now I ask myself that same thing, but you know what? Check the points below and tell me if it was time wasted :) Now let's get to writing.

I will create more detailed posts about most of these points (how I started, what I've learned, projects I have created, tutorials etc.) soon. All pictures and info here are momentarily simple and informative.

1. Became a member of the Steemit comunity

Since May 2017 :) My first entrance towards Crypto world. The main reason for being here was to know more about the subject, understand it, while sharing my works with you, meeting more like me, maybe even earn a bit in the long run. I'm still a newbie, and was surprised to see that some of my posts were successful and liked. On the other side, it has been dissapointing to see that so many people here are forcibly fishing for upvotes. It is an invasive approach towards earning money, they know it but do it anyway, and it proves that many don't yet understand why they're here.

2. First 500 hours coding in C++

I first studied a bit of computer history, which brought me many good ideas and gave me more motivation and reason to continue coding. Played with Particle Photon and learned how to connect and control small things like servos, leds, joysticks, sensors etc. Then ended up creating some pretty nice algorithms, small games and animations/demos with C++

3. Went to my first grappling competition

After almost 4 years of training. Some might say it was a bit late, but I considered I'd rather go have my first fight and be good at it, rather than just ok. I competed against 2 girls, in 2 matches - won one, lost the other one, fair enough. My next fight will be an MMA one :)

4. Played with 3D pens for the first time

Got a LIX pen in January 2017 and a Scribbler Nano this Christmas. It is a great way to spend my free time, and until now I tried drawing a few objects that are not easy to build by hand, but very very interesting and challenging to make. Who says this is for kids only?!

5. Got my first computer

I started designing 6 years ago, but all I had was a very slow, cheap laptop that wasn't enough to work with. Got another newer laptop 4 years ago, and it worked fine enough until I started coding and playing with animations and needed more power. So in January 2017, with lots of help from my techy boyfriend, I got all the needed parts to put together my first monster pc! Totally renewed my desk, lighting and work environment too, and now I can't ask for more :)

6. Bought 2 revolutionary retro computers

Amiga 500 and BBC Micro B. Awesome! Both of these computers deserve to be well known and respected for their great history and contribution to the rapid developments in the tech world. How do you think we got here? :)

7. Created my own first garden

Last, but not least :) Everyone needs their own "Zen" place, so I've built mine. I was never passionate about plants, but this year I decided to grow my own flowers, vegs and fruits. I live in an apartment, and found out I can't grow that indoors. So I used a space for bicycle parking that has been empty for years in my backyard, and made my improvized garden there. You wouldn't believe how much peace of mind I got there!

What's next?

Already started on my second programming language - Go, will continue making posts here on Steemit, train and participate to MMA competitions, draw in 3D, dig more into retro computing etc. etc :)

But I'd love to hear your thoughts and your list of things that you're proud of and accomplished last year!

I know. I saw that I had it added right after I posted, so I tried to remove and I can't :-\ Any suggestions?

Garden looks amazing, welcome to steemit and I must admit your such a creative person and sporty. =)

Thank you! It does look amazing right? :-D So proud of it. Thanks for sharing and your compliments :)

Warm welcome to the Steemit community @mindme. Wow, your last few years have been a blast. Thank you for sharing. Your Zen place is amazing. I'm gonna move in to my new house a month or so from now and I'm planning on growing flowers, veg and etc soon. Your backyard looks awesome already and I'm pretty sure it will going to get more awesome as time goes. Best of luck to you. Keep learning, keep training and keep sharing... Steem on!

Thank you for such a nice comment @invictuz :) Ah, that's only my last year. Haven't written anything about the other few, only what you see in the other posts. New house sound great! Keep in mind that a garden is a wonderful thing to have, but it needs lots and lots of attention. There'll always be some invasion of pests, snails, birds, something else, always threatened. But if you take good care of it, it will take care of you back :)

Thanks, I definitely will! Tell me, how was your last year?

Wow, AMAZING, you are where success, or success where you are.
MY 2017:
I programmed my first decktop java app,
I've read 94 books,
I've found steemit and crypto in general,
I traveled alone first time in my life ...

Thanks @doelist :) Wouldn't really call it success, but progress for sure.
Wow you definitely didn't waste time either!
What's the app about?
And what kind of books did you read?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Fictional, for the most part, I found some interesting Russian's classic authors like Nikolai Gogol and Leonid Andreyev.

App about productivity. It helps people to become more effective.

If you want to sell apps then you should to become entrepreneur and pay taxes. It's dark side. This year I will work on launching this app.

Hm, gotta check those authors.

Is the app functional? Just curious, would like to try it :)

Yeah, there's lots of active people, but not all of them have the time to write about it I guess. Well you have something to share, so why not make your post about 2017? :)

I wait for a good moment to public intro post, and post about my 2017. I will give you a free copy. Will you be my free beta tester?) ( in 2-4 months, not now(( )

Sounds good :) What's a free beta tester?

I send you a programme and you try it, send me a mini review and then use program for free. But it's limited offer.

It's beneficial for you and me.

I am amazed and excited about fact that there is people who is really doing something. They are active and cool.

Awesome post!
Go looks like an amazing language to learn, I already looked at some tutorials and might push it more this year.

Thank you!

Oh yes it is. After learning C++, Go is so so SO much easier to learn, and it makes a lot of sense. It's one of the best languages I've come across, even though I haven't yet started using it in more serious projects.

What languages do you know till now?

Mostly doing C# and Javascript nowadays. :)

Hm sounds good! Keep up the good work.

What do you use these languages for?

You are welcomed, good luck.

Thank you @samirbouazzoun :)

You're welcome :-)

Well I have not accomplished much like you, but only got pass actuarial paper and scored good percent in my exams. And, also purchased my first laptop

Sounds good @casualwriter :) Although I bet that if you think more about it, you've accomplished more in a year. I needed about a week to remember all I've done...or most of it :) Ah, ze laptop. Reminds me I gotta get one too.
