this is a translation of my first article : Journal d'un mineur : Introduction, premier pas et résumé semaine 00 that I wrote in November 2017. Sorry for my bad English and possible mistakes
Hello to all, I introduce myself, my name is Henr .... No, that's a Balavoine song ...
We begin again: I introduce myself, Monsieur-TK.
I made the decision to write this logbook to share the evolution of this project, to be able to compile and synthesized the various information that I will collect and discuss the failures / errors but also success with you.
I also wish to be able to exchange with you on the world of mining and more generally, cryptocurrencies.
To do this, I would write a summary of the past week every weekend so that I can make the best decisions for the next week.
What are we going to talk about in this article?
- Who am I ?
- Why mining?
- A pc gamer as a basis for a rig?!?!?!
- Mining !
- Week 00 Summary
So let's go !
1. Who am I ?
First of all, I will set the scene. For those who are not interested, go directly to the end of the post in the mining section.
I am a "young" man of 28 years living in Belgium. Passionate about hardware and gaming since my youngest age thanks to my father computer teacher (and gamer too), I'm like who would "fell in when I was little".
Already at the time, I was using my dad as my first computer which was made of memory of one of the first AMD bits processors and a SLI Nvidia 6600 GT still in AGP format for the time (for the youngest, the ancestor of PCI express).
Since that day, I have never bought a "ready made" PC and I have probably built more than a hundred bikes for me, but also my friends and family. In the end, I take more pleasure to mount machines than actually used them (irony of the thing ...).
2. Why mining ?
Like almost everyone here, for "crypto-sous" ! But incidentally, I always liked hacking my gear, the OC died to have the best scores in Bench and games. I mounted several watercooling, many config multi-gpu, ... Real gems that often exceeds the bar of 2K see 3k euros.
After almost 1 month of reflections, Excel spreadsheets to compare the returns, costs, ROI, I decided to get started and try the adventure.
3. A pc gamer as a base for a RIG?!?!?
Yes yes, you read correctly, rather than set up a real RIG, I will at first transform my pc into RIG to see what it returns.
But why ? are you crazy ?
Not exactly, I'll try to explain my reasoning (maybe I'm wrong, I'm waiting for your opinion).
My current pc is composed of:
- CPU: R7 1700 clock @ 4.0 GHz
- GPU: GTX 1080 Gamerock edition @ +170 mhz core clock and +500 mhz memory clock
- CM: Gigabyte X370 gaming 5
- RAM: 16 GB @ 3200 mhz
- Power supply: 850W PLATINIUM LDLC (Seasonic rebadged)
So I decided to add to this beautiful config 2 new GTX 1080 with 2 risers PCI-Express.
So I have to amortize only the cost of 2 cards and no longer an entire config. The advantage for me is that if ever the project had to abort for any reason, I would keep one of 1080 to mount a SLI (I already thought to do it before I start crypto) and I already have a lot of interested in my colleagues for the remaining 1080. So I have a lot of luck on my side (at least, I have the impression).
4. Mining !
That's the heart of the subject!
Since I have Nvidia cards, I use the ccminer software version 2.2 with the CUDA 8.0 installed on my machine.
To know the corners that I am going to mine, I will use the excellent https: //whattomine.com, but already knowing the advantage of Nvidia cards with the Equihash algorithm I head first to the Zclassic type currencies , Zencash, Hush (my favorite) ...
Given that the difficulty evolves over time, it is likely that every week I will take stock to decide which currencies to mine in the week and thus increase my chances of winning.
Regarding the pool, I currently run with the pool https://www.suprnova.cc (but if you know better, I'm starting) and my software is already configured for their servers.
5. Summary week 00
Having already undermined a little can with my 1080, here is currently the state of my stocks:
- ZCLASSIC (ZCL): 0.2238
- Zencash (ZEN): 0.2311
- Hush (HUSH): 3.2975
- Liberty Credit (LBC): 12.1859
- Signatum (SIGT): 92.7163
- Groestl (GRS): 27.0482
I avoid the Bytcoin and other Digibyte that I mined and sold for peasants!
Here we are ! Congratulations if you have arrived here without dying of trouble!
To you the studios !
