To You An Introduction to Myself

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Hi Steemians! My name is Mychael Jones and I'm a web developer, musician, crypto enthusiast, Portland Timbers and Seattle Seahawks fan from the great Pacific Northwest - Vancouver, Washington to be exact. I'm a proud father of an awesome (almost) two year old daughter, and am husband to my better half, @acmjones. Oh, and I really like creating stuff.

My wife and I are blessed to have an awesome (almost) 2-year old daughter that is growing like a tumbleweed, and there's nothing in life that I want more than to be by her side as she grows and becomes her own unique person.

Everyday I wake up striving to be the best father and husband that I can be. That ambition is what led me to crypto currencies and into the realm of Steemit. I got into crypto currencies not fantasizing about Lambo's (though it'd be nice), but fantasizing about being able to enjoy every moment of everyday with my family while still being able to pay off student loans and take care of the bills.

Ok, ok. Maybe I'm getting a little too sappy? Besides my family, I'm pretty weird. At least my wife always tells me that.

That was a picture of me and not my wife. Actually, I didn't even know that person in the picture; some other drunk just wanted to take pictures using my phone, and I thought, "hey, why not."

THIS... is me and my wife:

She did all of our makeup. Pretty badass, right? Yeah, she's awesome. Check out her coolness @ACMJones.

Anyways...

I greatly enjoy listening, studying, and playing all forms of music. On any given day you can catch me on the guitar finger picking some Townes Van Zandt, composing 12-tone music in Finale (maybe Logic, too), creating electronic music on the Maschine, or studying the rise in the use of triplets in vocal lines. I'm currently a member of the band, How to Build a Fire, where I play bass and guitar, and sometimes keyboard/piano/synth. I also make my own music/sounds/audible offerings, which the majority of can be found on my SoundCloud. https://soundcloud.com/mychael-jones

OR..

... North not your style? Why not try...

After studying music in college, I started writing tutorials for an online electronic music publisher which pushed me further into synthesizers and software synths. At the same time, I continued my education focusing heavily on digital media as an art form. This led to an appreciation for experimental films, and inspired me to create my own videos. This led me to creating videos in which I used my music as the inspiration. So I started creating stuff like... Oh I did the audio, and I edited footage that I found on http://www.archive.org.

I then found myself getting into vlogs. I don't personally create vlogs, but I was finding inspiration by artists such as Casey Neistat and Sailing La Vegabond. If you're familiar with the two, then you probably have a good idea of where my videos eventually went. If you're not familiar with the two, I highly recommend checking them out at least once, but here is the style that I took from the vloggers (my wife made the splash screen, I did sound, editing and videography) :

So, yeah. I like creating things.

For my day to day gig, I'm a Web Developer / IT for a veterinary startup that is trying to make veterinary care predictable and affordable for everyone. If you're curious, I mainly develop for LAMP stacks, but am not limited to. There is just a lot of PHP/MySQL/WordPress gigs.

That being said, my website is kind of poo and hasn't been updated in several years, but you can find it at http://www.MychaelJones.com

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy my posts.

Cheers,
Mychael

Here's me trying to nail a fingerstyle open g-tuned jig.

This is killer! I haven't messed with open tunings in awhile, and now I can't wait to get home and open it up play some slack style guitar riffs! Great job man! I subscribed to your YouTube and am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Do you play in a lot of non-standard tunings? I found myself in love with (let's see if I can remember off the top of my head and w/ no guitar) DADF#AE -- And sometimes I drop the E to a D if I want that complete D Major Open sound. The way I use my pinky that E helps me to get the notes that I want. Lately though, I've just been playing in standard with everything dropped half a step so that I have an easier time singing.
