Welcome to steemit - I'm new as well and I'm still lurking :) I don't do "tech" and I decided to join steemit because it seemed more promising in the realm of civility than FB & YT. I'm girding my loins to prepare my introduction and as soon as I figure out how to add photos to break up my reliance on the written word, I'll jump in. Funny thing about your mother tongue - you never really loose the programming. Here's one for you - my mom's French and my dad English and she put us in English school - do you say "turn off the light" or "close the light"?

    Ferme la lumiere. Directly translates to... close the light. I still let this slip once in a while and get correct me. They ask... you mean turn off the light.
