What should I blog about?

Can you guide me on what I should be blogging about?

Ok, full disclosure, this is not my first #introduceyourself post. I’m tagging this one again for 3 reasons:

  1. I didn’t post a verification photo to prove who I am before. (see above, check!)
  2. I can’t edit my original post now (I didn’t realise these things had an expiry date!). You can see that post here.
  3. I forgot to ask you guys for guidance on what I should be blogging about! This is the main purpose of this post today.

I love how Steemit is community driven and focuses on rewarding great content. I’d like to contribute to that where I can, but the last thing I want to do is spam you with posts of no interest or value. Therefore, I would really appreciate your feedback on what you would want to read/learn about going forward.

There are a few areas that I have interests and experience in which I have outlined below for context.

Alan & Ray copy.jpg

Me with fellow co-founder Sir Ray Avery

The Entrepreneur

I am the founder and CEO of a company called Jupl. This is my third business venture. The other two failed and provided valuable learning experiences! We have been going for 5 years now, we have 20 staff in 2 countries and are valued at over $20M to date (dictated by private equity rounds).

I have raised millions of dollars in capital funding including major strategic investors such as our national carrier and a global health insurance company.

I have taken technology products to market through blue-chip channel partners and I have grown a team from 0 to 20, talented and strong minded individuals.

I continually get asked to advise budding entrepreneurs of tech start-ups, so this might be an area where I could add a lot of value on Steemit.

me and bix.jpeg

Me with one of my heros, Bix Wier

The Crypto Enthusiast

For about a year now I’ve been learning about, and investing in, Bitcoin and ‘Altcoins’. Firstly, I truly believe that cryptocurrencies offer a viable alternative to the existing banking system. This is what led me to exploring Bitcoin in the first place. I also believe that blockchain is a game changing technology much like the internet and the printing press.

I’ve experienced ICO investing, HODLing and trading. Overall I’ve done pretty well at all of them. However, let’s face it, a monkey could have done well investing and trading in crypto last year! 😃

Given my technical background I’ve really delved into the technical side of blockchain and cryptocurrencies (I’m an electrical engineer, majoring in Digital Signal Processing and Telecommunications). I understand master-nodes, proof-of-work, proof-of-stake, centralised and decentralised exchanges, hardware wallets etc.

I doubt I would add much value advising on trading except to share my experiences to date. However, I could potentially add value on the technical support side and certainly on the ICO investing side given my entrepreneurial background.

The ‘Libertarian’

I don’t really like labelling myself or others but I guess this is the best way to describe my stance on social and political issues (we all have a bias!). No doubt I will want to weigh in on Steemit posts/discussions on such matters!

In fact it wasn’t until I attended Anarchapulco this year that I really discovered the Steemit community.

Terry Brock did a great job MC’ing that event and it’s thanks to him that I got involved with Steemit. In fact, he kindly gave me this post template 👍

For those interested I would highly recommend looking into the Fund Your Freedom course hosted by Terry and his partner Gina Carr.

Fund your freedom.jpg

https://steemit.com/@terrybrock
https://steemit.com/@ginacarr

I also feel like I should give a shout out to Jerry Banfield as I have found his videos on Steemit very educational.

I guess I could share my experiences on Steemit but the real tips are probably best left to Jerry, Terry and Gina 😉

boys fiji.jpg

My boys cruising in Fiji

The Family Guy

Of course, I’m also married with 2 young children and have interests from food, to travel, to sports.

No doubt I’ll throw in the odd post on my day-to-day life especially on topics I feel strongly about, such as this one relating to my son’s supposed ADHD!

Where should I focus?

Based on the above, I would really appreciate it if you guys could provide feedback on what you would like to find out about more. Even a simple comment stating a topic per those below would be great. You may even get an upvote 😉

  1. Business/Entrepreneurship
  2. Crytpo/Technical/Trading
  3. Political and Social Commentary
  4. Day-to-Day Life

Thanks again and I look forward to carrying on the discussion.

Take care,

Alan

anything you want!

#introduceyourself/#introducemyself

The “introduceyourself/introducemyself” tag is for creating one introductory post that tells us about you. Users are encouraged to use this tag exclusively for that, and not to reuse it.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Understood @spaminator. I did explain in this post why I was reusing the tag, but you are right. I will refrain from using it again. Thanks

I see no problem in using any tag here. I got flagged big time after I used it when I completed 50 days here. good luck and enjoy your time here....

I was recently discussing these bots on a post by @timcliff

@nalabra @sidsun

You have every right to use the tags as you wish. However, some bots base their automated welcome messages based on the tag, so using it many times results in those autobots reposting a lot of redundant welcomes to the blockchain. So they punish you for that.

Due to the pressure of witnesses plea to reduce blockchain bloat to keep prices affordable for backup witnesses, many people are on a mission to stop spammers.

The welcomes are generally considered a good thing to make people feel pseudo-welcomed, since welcoming everyone 1 by 1 would involve real people actually having to exert effort to say hello- and few want to do that. In general, most of the introductory posts are firstcomers: so the general consensus is the needs of the bots serving the many outweigh the actual right of the few real humans.

The name of that bot is scary but it has no authority beyond it's rep and stake. Once you have exceeded both, its downvotes cannot effect your rep (unless it calls upon a bigger bully to flag you — which probably will happen if you continue to use the tag.)

The bot is not right. Whom is "out of order" here, technically, is the bot. It is spamming YOU. You did not spam the tag by reintroducing yourself. But it has the best intentions. And it's better for the whole— maybe. Maybe.

I personally only think it should bother phishing accounts and sock accounts, and mass created accounts...but those never use this tag. :-)

Obviously, if you do actually misuse the tagging feature repeatedly (for instance, using the Cat tag to sell a book about sunrises) that would be spam. Unless the book had a picture of cats on it, then the government won't bother you.

(\A)

Have a great time on Steemit. And I'm soooooo sorry that this bot has stained your reintroduction.

:(

the alternative is to promote a new tag called Anniversary or something similar. U really want to share your experiences as someone who has been here for two months or 100 days or whatever. those posts will be much more productive even for new comers. As members here, it's good to talk about our experience every now and then. Introduceyourself is also another way of meeting new people, however I prefer having a tag for bloggers who've used this space for a while. not sure how to go about creating one...or popularising a tag that can be used more...

A tag only remains trending when it has 50 or more (usually) weekly ongoing postings in a rotation — it seems. I will write about the possibility of everyone adopting such a tag. I have a few in mind as well.

Even many popular tags would vanish if there were no current posts for every day within them.

true. but yes we need something other than Introduceyourself. Lot of users use the hate button if u post there..not just bots. The holier than thou people. Moral policing at its worst...lol

Well-intentioned people, many of whom I adore, and protecting their long term investments for everyone's sake — but yes, some very passive aggressive. Lol.

I see what kind of vision they want to a degree, basically facebook that shares all the money equally, like a monetized democratic socialist website. And I'm not judging, but I'm not sure they realize that's not what they signed up for here and that they are effectively imposing and projecting.

I was recently in a dialog about how spam bots go around telling people not to spam, and not to use bots. LOL

thanks @sidsun I'm still learning the 'rules' here

Good luck! lol It took me over 90 days before I just happened to read someone mention the .02 earnings threshold. I wasted over 1000 upvotes. :( Congrats on a very successful post. I still haven't even broken $70 in earnings for a whole week. lol

I followed both of you handsome gentlemen

Community

Is there an Etiquette Guide for Steemit?

There are no official rules for participating on steemit.com, but one of the users @thecryptofiend has created an Etiquette Guide for the community. While it is not required to follow the suggestions in the guide, they are standards that many users in the community choose to follow.

Plagiarism, Spam, and Abuse

  • Using tags that are unrelated to the post

Unrelated is, of course, subjective. And there is no single authority or agreement on this. Although there are many self-appointed authorities enforcing their (often conflicting) ideas of unrelated. Good luck.

Thank you for sharing this @omitaylor

Welcome bro ! I'm new here too. I guess we are just hanging there before we figure it out. Cheers :)

Hello! I am a fellow newb at Steemit and about to post my introduceyourself video. Welcome to the community! Your boys are adorable.

Thank you!

Warm welcome to Steemit Alan and greetings from Thailand! Your homepage says you're based in NZ: my wife @suitcasemama and I had a chance to visit a few years back for about a month and loved it!

You've gained a follower and looking forward to your next post!

Thanks @starthere Yes NZ is a great place in my opinion, but of course, I'm biased 😉

Crypto could be a good choice... But there are many other people who talks about.

Which cryptos do u have? :-)

Thanks @making-miles. I hold quite a few but my favourites are

Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero and PIVX
Platform Tokens: Ethereum, EOS and NEO
Utility Tokens: Steem, Salt, Power Ledger and Substratum

Yes EOS its good pick. ADA and XLM would be great long-term investment!

  1. EOS
  2. ADA
  3. XLM

Crytpo/Technical/Trading

Thanks @pmuchemi, I'll make a note of that.

Welcome to steemit Alan! Wow, with that kind of background I'm sure we will see some valuable content from you. Definitely following! I'm especially interested in what you learned from your 2 failed startups. I only experienced startups failures from the employee side so I'm curious to see it from a management perspective :)

Thanks @unfixable. There's certainly plenty of things I could write about there! I'll add it to the list. Much appreciated.

welcome to steemit... your background is impressive :)

For me, I would love to see you focus on the business side. I write a few blogs for small business owners - how-to's etc. But the great thing is you have so many different avenues you can go down. Keep it diverse and interesting and I have no doubt you'll do well here :-)

Thanks for the feedback @yasminep. I'll be sure to check out some of your posts!

Welcome to SteemIt!

Question
What should @Nalabra blog about?

FullSizeRender 3.jpg
Tower, King of Wands, 2 of Pentacles

Blog about epic failures (Tower) you have encountered in your adventures as a CEO & Entrepreneur and how your passion for what you were building (King of Wands) and your skill for Turning Shit to Gold (2 of Pentacles) saved or created new opportunities for your projects.

I run a Divination blog. You can read my approach to Tarot in my introduction post here.

Thank you for the kind shout-out, @nalabra. Welcome back. You are going to love what you can do with Steemit. And hey, the template I gave you that you're using here is working well for you! Good for you! I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future.

hey @nalabra i like your company http://jupl.com great work.
I suggest it would be great if you blog about your company work and its products. You will get to know views of others on your products and people will also get to know about your work.

ok thank you @urubaali. I'll make a note of that.

Welcome to steemit @nalabra
I love crypto currency and you should write about it.

ok thanks @sunkat

Well these are all good ideas. i would recommend mixing things up a bit but i guess the things everyone talks about is political and social commentary.

ok thanks @thecommonnephil

I have Bitcoin. Do you favor Ethereum? I may try to get some of that too. Jerry introduced me to Steemit as well. Good work in business and everything. I'm a filmmaker, writer, artist. People call me Oatmeal. Nice to meet you. Steemit is awesome. I also like the http://Gab.ai website.

Thanks @joeyarnoldvn.

I think it is important to compare crypto projects that are similar. Bitcoin to me is a store of value, a method of payment and whilst not perfect in terms of fees and processing time (when compared to Bitcoin Cash or Litecoin), it is still much better than the current SWIFT system banks use for most international transfers.

Ethereum is effectively a blockchain operating system allowing people to develop blockchain based applications. Similar to EOS, NEO and Cardano for example.

Therefore, to me, comparing Bitcoin to Ethereum would be like comparing USD to Android, so I don't favour one over the other.

Welcome to steemit @nalabra

Thanks @ademkrgl

Nice contribution.
Welcome to Steemit and welcome to my blog.

Happy Steeming.

Hello @nalabra and thank you for your Post :)

I do all except number 2.

I call it Macro Blogging. I did Micro blogging in the world of Internet Marketing for over a decade. i.e picking a highly narrow niche to blog about like "losing weight for post- pregnant african american women"

And I like the Freedom of Macro Blogging.

More or less it's very general but quite engaging and entertaining Content that I produce.

And with things like Family and kids you have endless Fodder to use as Blog Content. Taking photos of my kids science project yesterday, taking photos of my wife's recent dinner dish, bike riding with kids , vacations , trips etc...etc..

Like I said endless stuff and you can make it very entertaining for your readers :)

Full Powered Vote.gif

great advice @robertandrew, thanks for sharing. You're right, we're never short of stories about kids!

Thanks for sharing about the contact details and will contact you very soon.

You can blog about a lot of things. People are interested in different things. Here I'm telling you what I love to learn.

You're a CEO of a company. You can add tremendous value on your post. I'm interested to know about your struggle, business experience, your failures, challenges, what you learn from this and how you run business today and so on.

I also love to know about blockchain and cryptocurrency and how it impacts on business. I believe many people like me are interested to know about it.

And of course, your day to day life related posts would be amazing! You can make great content. I'm looking forward to reading your post.

Followed you!

so the limit to edit a post is about a week?

yes, @ftharyanto, it looks like you only get 7 days. This coincides with the payouts I guess.

Oh yes, I think you are right

thanks for the feedback @a1mtarabichi

Business/Entrepreneurship and Crytpo/Technical/Trading and the best way to create income streams, either one is good to me but of course crypto is more interesting.

Thanks @fr3eze. Most feedback would suggest I start with Entrepreneurship so I'll probably start with that. I'll be sure to throw in some crypto posts as well though!

I love to read about businees/enterpreneurship. I see you have much and good experience about it. I hope you choose this point so i can learn by..thank you mr.@nalabra

Thanks @supriadimeutuah . Most feedback would suggest I start with Entrepreneurship so I'll probably start with that. I hope you find them useful!

Hi, I don't think you will have any problem to write about a topic you like.
The Crypto "thing" is very interesting nowadays and challenging.
I have learned this on my online journey:

  • How Can I help?
  • How Can I Add Value To People?

Hey there. I've been on Steemit for about 6 weeks and the first few weeks I spent a lot of time wondering what to blog about as well. Finally, I just loosened up and started writing about stuff that I was naturally thinking about and it got easier. I've even started writing about my dreams because I wanted to have somewhere to put them and found it was easier to do it here than write it out long hand in a notebook. I think you'll find that stuff will just start seeming obvious to you. Also, I think it's good to try not to get too niche, just keep it a bit fluid. That has worked for me and the past couple of weeks have been a breeze. Good luck!

hey thanks for the advice @tacostate. Much appreciated!

From the look of your post you will have plenty to blog about. I would say stick to what you are passionate about and you will do great. I am new to this and just working on getting my blog going but that is the approach that I am taking.

Welcome to Steemit, even if it's the second time ;) I would recommend you write posts about all 4 main topics you mentioned. In time you'll see the interest members have on certain topics, but if you don't test, you won't know! It is easier to find the niche that way I believe, I'm actually working on that myself.

Blog about everything what comes in your mind! That's the most authentic way!

I am a student of other people's failures. The way that I look at things I can either fail myself (and hopefully learn from my mistakes) or I can take a look around and find someone else that failed and try not to do what they did. So the fact that you have two failed business ventures is of intrest to me.

There are two important things that need to be accomplished in my life #1 I need to focus on Loving GOD! and #2 I need to focus on Loving other people. It seems to me that you are in a position to gently steer people away from some of the mistakes that you have made.

Thanks @captaintj, yes this seems like a good place to start.

That sounds like a plan! ;)
