My name is Naomi Kerongo, I survived the US embassy bomb attack in Kenya & I am a refugee living in the US

Before the bombing on August 7, 1998, I was a Kenya Government Civil Servant. I served as a Trade Development officer in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Kenya. I was injured while on duty serving as a Civil Servant. During this one time event I lost more than 250 friends and officers in my office. My life as I knew it was changed for ever. Due to long illness and long stay in a mental Hospital, I lost my Job and subsequently was evicted from my house. Both the Government of Kenya and that of United States did not compensate me for the loses occurring during this horrific attack.

I being a single mother with 5 children, it became impossible for us to make it. From a middle class we ended up in the Slums of Mukuru in Nairobi. A situation meant for the poorest of the poor. This is when my eyes opened to the new reality of life.

Interview with BBC in my shack, in the slum of Mukuru, Kenya

I chose to go on a hunger strike to seek compensation for the Victims of the Bombing for our injuries and losses. I did not eat or drink for 14 days. I was with a few others and it was like no one knew what to do for us. I at one time fainted and was about to die. I knew I would die and no one will know that I died for a course. I started to drink water. The media covered my story both in electronic and print media reported my story. It took me 124 days demonstrating 24hour a day at the City Center where the US Embassy used to stand. It was silent from everywhere. Not even my own Government stopped by to find out what we are seeking. Finally the park management where I was doing my manifestation tried to force me out. They closed all the water sources so that I lack water to drink, brought in Dogs with security guards and I was tortured. My own Government watched helplessly. This is one of the few hunger strikes in history which did not receive any attention from anybody including United nations.

Speaking TRUTH to POWER, the Kenyan Government in attendance. This speech is why I am now a refugee in the US.

I started a project to help children most of whom were vulnerable and homeless. This became my turning point to my healing. I touched many lives and in return I was also blessed with much healing from the unconditional love. I realize that the good we do to humanity is rewarded not necessarily by the same people we help but by the universe. Do good and move on your reward comes from a source you have no idea by whom and when.

Today I live in the United States as a refugee and I stand for Truth, Love, Justice and forgiveness for humanity.
