I'm Harvey from Narratively Speaking. Come join me as I follow a train of thought... !

action-adult-analog-1043512.jpgHi Steemians,

I'm Harvey and I'm very happy to be here! I recently started a podcast called "Narratively Speaking" -- I still don't really know why.

I struggle talking into a microphone and getting my thoughts out, but I also have a pretty good time in my head thinking about weird ideas, so I figured I'd try to get better at the former so I can share some of the latter.

It seems to me that humanity is going through a kind of revolution of consciousness right now and we're all trying to find new ways to make sense of the world. Between technology, religion, science and social media you'd think we'd be closer to finding answers -- but if you're anything like me, you're more confused than ever.

A while back, it occurred to me that I kept hearing the same words over and over again, in many disparate areas like philosophy, news media, conspiracy and science. And those were words related to "story".

Ever since then, I've been listening for it. Once you become aware, you start to realise story is everywhere, and not just in the obvious places like entertainment or popular culture.

When critiquing a news article, the critic will call it a "narrative". TV news presents "stories". Even people who have never met are aware they are sharing stories. How often have you said to someone "what's your story?" or asked about a person that interests you "what's her story?"

I realised everyone has a story they tell, and it's more than mere entertainment or base virtue signalling -- it's the very thing that defines us. We're all works in progress, an unfinished story and we're the authors of.

Thus started a train of thought that I want to follow to it's conclusion, whatever that may be. Some days I think story is just a useful communication tool, but occasionally I can justify the claim it's the very unit of information that is stored natively by our minds. Hell, I've even wondered if it might flat out be the meaning of life!

One thing I'm sure of: story deserves to hold a more revered place in our culture.

If you're a curious human, why not join me for the ride?

Here's the latest episode of the podcast. Listen to them all if you want to get up to speed. Then come back here and let's talk about it! I so want to hear your thoughts!

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to record the next episode... !

Hello narrativelysp! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
