Focus On Impact, Not Income: How My Article Exploded This Week

Hey everyone!

Nick, again!
Thank you all for your overwhelming support on Wednesday's article!
By the way, here it is if you didn’t get a chance to read it:

Thanks to you guys, my article became an explosive sensation.
I received TONS of amazing feedback.
So in return,
I wanted to give something that might help those of you who are new to the platform!
It's about a 3 minute read- but I packed it with as much value as possible.

You see, I noticed that most of you opened up to me in a big way yesterday.
You told me who you are and what you do.
You revealed how you want to make a difference. Not only in this community, but even the world.

Some of you are artists, writers, and other creatives, like @vegetarianbaker @marcelli @hansikhouse and @voronoi

Some of you are running businesses and agencies, like @ebmgrj @themediumone and @sircork

Then there are those of you who may be young, but are well on your way to making a crazy impact, like @maxy-hopkins and @sdilan.

And then there are those of you are just innovative motherf*cking wizards with incredible ideas like @swolesome @dwinblood and @sarahjanele.

As badass as all of our talents are, I think we can agree we’re all here for one main reason…

To maximize the value of our passions and ideas.

Maybe you’re an entrepreneur looking to fund your dreams;
or a crypto investor looking to accumulate the next best currency.
Maybe you’re a globetrotter looking to Steem power your next adventure.
Or maybe you’re aiming for meaningful connections within the Steemit community…

Then, there are those of you who are just looking to loot some Steem (hey, no shame in your game).

Whatever the reason, you’ve got passion that can lead to some serious profit.
But many of you are struggling to produce high-quality content that gets the crowd buzzing.

When you’re new to Steemit, you’re told to add as much value as possible.
But the thing is, nobody ever wants to give you the actual steps…
Here’s where I can help!

You see, there’s a reason why my very first article made over $1200...
There was something about it that attracted insane engagement (291 comments)
and brought me 100+ followers in a single day…

And it's something powerful I learned from incredible mentors in my career.
But to be clear, I can’t guarantee that your articles will see the SAME EXACT performance.
Hell, I can’t even guarantee that THIS article will do the same today.

However, I CAN share my formula to writing a high value article that resonates with your audience.
Oh, and don’t worry.
This isn’t some ClickFunnel scheme to get you to opt into some expensive program…
Just some simple, yet incredibly powerful tools that I use in my own marketing agency (I am the CEO, after all…).

Once I learned these tips,
I was able to land collaborations with brands like Microsoft and HTC.
It was like everyone started giving me the time of day.
And I want the same for you, too!

So, no more stalling. Let’s get started:

Step 1: Knowing Your Audience & Their Problems

Probably the most important - yet overlooked - step, ever.
If you don’t know WHO you’re writing for, you’re f*cked.

The best way you’re going to earn those upvotes is to create content that matters.
And the only content that matters is content that people are searching for.

Trust me.
I studied the hell out of this platform for weeks before even posting.
I wanted to make sure my big idea was one that the community would value!

Find out what your audience missing. Then you can fill that void for them.

Step 2: Provide A Solution

Once you know what your audience cares about or what they need,
it’s time to deliver.
So many times I’ve seen posts on here and I’m like:
“you didn’t give two f*cks before you posted this, did you?”

I’m not saying you have to be an expert or guru in your niche.
But you’ve got talent and experience; you can teach us something we don’t know yet...

So, teach us. Just make it about the reader and not about you.

For example:
Let’s say you run a travel blog on here.
Most people who follow you probably enjoy travel too, right?
And I bet you’ve got entertaining stories and photos…

But dig deeper...

If your audience starts gushing over your recent adventure, teach them how to replicate your success.

You could write something like:
“How to Fund Your Dream Vacation on Steem Dollars,”
or
“How I traveled to - blah, blah, blah - for under $800.”

These headlines show that your article was written with their needs in mind.
Make sense?
If you can help them create their own experiences, they’ll remember you forever.

Step 3: Call To Action

Always end your content with a call to action.
A thought-provoking question or a encouragement to take action.
It will do wonders for your engagement.

At the end of my last article -
I asked you all for your thoughts and invited you to participate.
I received comments and replies ALL DAY.
Most of them were really well thought-out too.
All it took was a simple “what do you think about _____?” or “drop your thoughts below.”

Also,
BONUS
Creating room for your followers to talk about themselves is a GREAT way to learn about what they care about.

Now you can start writing content that matters to them.
Which in turn, will help you get more upvotes and more resteems.

The REAL Key To Steemit Success

Steemit can be a goldmine where you reap rewards daily -
or it can be an empty well, bringing you zero prosperity.
It all depends on how much value you bring to this community.

The REAL key to Steemit Success is to focus not on the income,
but the impact your content has on the community.

And above all, be GENUINE with your approach.

My goal with yesterday’s article was to test an idea and get valuable feedback.
I didn't expect to write a post that earned over $1200 that day. And I didn't care either.
But because I made sure that my article followed all of these important steps,
it brought tons of extremely high value to the community.

So here’s my Call to Action for you -
hit me in the comments, introduce yourself and tell me how you’re doing on here:

Are you struggling to add value through your content? If so, why?

I'll do my best to help!

Yesr

Thanks!

dude im 7 seconds in on the Dodge video. This shit is INSANE!
youre talented man

Much appreciated man 👊🏼 I do everything from powersports to weddings. I do powersports videography fulltime for company and other fun stuff on the side. I'm very fortunate.

I have to agree. Focus on what yore trying to express. The rewards will follow naturally. It is SO obvious who the people are that are just cranking out mindless content to chase to rewards. And it is very unattractive. Tho, if they arnt rewarded, they will most likely fade out fairly quickly. Thanks for making an effort.

so true!
Thanks for the support :)

I have to disagree to some extent. Sure, pandering to people will get you the rewards but it'll ultimately create a circle jerk. People should write about what interests them and what they're passionate about rather than what they think will make them the most money.

Very well said.

well see,
the point is not to pander haha. I agree with you on that.
its to take what we care about and frame it in a way that other people can care too.

We can all say that we're just here to make friends or learn about steem,
but at the root- most people are here because of the reward.
otherwise we'd all be on wordpress.

when asking for money, which we all are in an indirect way, you need to appeal to the person who has the power to give it to you.

If those people with the power all have basically the same interests though, people will post stuff based on those interests in order to get a reward from them. Over time, it'll create a runaway effect where only those interests gain visibility and rewards.

If this platform is to take off, it needs diversity of opinion and it requires heated arguments instead of backslapping in an echo chamber.

you know what, i respect it man.
But remember i also said know your audience.
I know there are some people who are on here for different reasons and dont care about this article. It may not even apply to them.

This was targeted towards people who were struggling to understand how to convey value in their posts. which leads to a complex debate on what is value.
I usually go for perceived value

Very refreshing to hear some clear arguments during a time when everyone is hyped on payouts post-HF19. It would also be awesome if you could us more about how you've applied these tenets to your professional life!

Funny you say that!
I saw the whole HF thing and thought this would be a decent response.

And i'll include more about my professional life very soon.
But it seems my profession is all I talk about these days, Steemit has been a nice break from that haha :)

Yea it has been a bit of a gold rush for newer users recently.

Looking forward to it! Also we'll be hosting an NYC official meetup soon for a happy hour so keep your eyes peeled.

Oh man i cant wait for that. Please keep me posted!

@hansikhouse - as requested. here's how we used this in my professional life:

Would really love your input when you get the time :)

Dude, Nick...

What an enjoyable read.

Loved it.

And how I could relate to it.

I am always focusing on impact.

Rewards are alluring yet they are secondary to me.

The REAL key to Steemit Success is to focus not on the income,
but the impact your content has on the community.

This has been my mantra from day one. And it really has served me so well.

A lot of Steemers should take this long-term approach.

Glad to upvote this post!

Keep Steeming!

thanks for the support ! Im so glad you agree

Hey @nickytothenines! I'm Jabz from Casablanca. I like to write but forget to think about what my audience really wants. I have a couple articles that got some engagement, and I think it was because I answered questions my direct readers had - and written timely so the interest was srill there! I still need to learn a LOT and your article helps! Cheers and following

whatsup Jabz. Im Nick from NYC.
Glad this helped! And don't forget, you can still write about what interests you.
Just get the reader involved!

Cool thanks! NYC is on my list of places i want to have a loong vacation.

Awesome post! Welcome to Steemit! Looking forward to more of these, so followed you :-)

Thanks alot, man! I will definitely follow back.
I look forward to seeing what you bring here as well

Great content you put on the market. Enjoyed

Thank you!

noted.
However, my aim was to target new users for this post.
And my call to action at the end of this article asked new users to introduce themselves to me.

But I get your point
