GRANADA , ANDALUCIA ... Sun , Flamenco & great Tapas ; Spain Encapsulated

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Spain is know for its relaxed Chilled out vibe . But Granada ,one of the largest student cities in the country , takes this to the next level .
This typical Andalucia chilled out vibe , mixed with the student atmosphere , its moorish architecture and influence and the large hippie & gitano [gyspie] community make this city such a unique melting pot of cultures .

Familiarizing myself with the Locals , Their cave homes and the beautiful views at The hills of Sacramonte

Drinking a beer on the hills of Sacramonte and watching the sun go down over the alhambra is a must !!

the City is brimming with life and passion and one can hear flamenco songs and the clap of a cajon bellowing from various bars and plazas around the old town [El albaicin ].

The city had once been a moorish stronghold , as is evident in its Arab inspired architecture which will have you feeling like you have been placed inside dysney's Aladin .

Although the city is small and could be traversed end to end In a matter of hours , one could similarly spend days upon days walking around in awe at the stunning architecture , intentionally getting lost among the long , narrow and winding streets of Granada's 'casco antiguo '

Tapas
You have likely heard of the tapas culture in spain . But Granada keeps the tradition the way it was intended .
In most cities in Spain nowadays Tapas , or a free bite of food with your beer , may consist of some peanuts , olives or if you are lucky some Jamon and bread . Whereas in Granada , having a few small beers in a bar will see you served with some of the tastiest dishes you will ever try ...and if you keep drinking the tapas keep coming .
on a short stay In this city it would be feasible to eat very well , without having to pay for a meal out .

Processions
I was in Granada During the middle of spain's easter week celebrations or 'semana Santa ' , where cities shutdown for a week of celebration and processions seeing hooded men [Its not the KKK lol] descend upon the city carrying crosses and impressive floats through the small streets .This truly is a sight to be seen and in Granada the spectacular scenery make this all the more impact
