Introduction: Rohit Ramachandran (Mumbai, India)

Hey Guys,

This is Rohit Ramachandran, a 26 year old FinTech professional from Mumbai, India. It's great to be a part of the Steemit community. I've been on here for roughly two weeks now, pretty inactively I must admit. Work has kept me busy, but I can't wait to be a part of the growing community here and contribute to something that has the ability to positively influence the internet community.

The year that just went by was infamous for the amount of fake news that was spread via the medium of social media. India is a largely diverse country with people following multiple religions, speaking over a hundred languages, spread across a pretty big area. We take pride in being a secular democracy, and for most part, have a well established system for addressing issues that may arise between two different communities. However, with the advent of fake news, the well established collaborative environment that has been built over the last half century or so stands the risk of being ruined. Fake news being spread on Facebook has lead to clashes between religious groups, some even ending with people losing their lives. I think in a situation like this, a block-chain based platform like Steemit could be exactly what our world needs. Considering that the reach and visibility of a post goes up only after a fair number of responsible curators deem it be worthy, I'm confident we can phase out fake information being spread at least on here.

Coming to myself - before working in FinTech, I worked at a global investment bank for about 3 years. I run a sports blog in my free time and have been actively involved in sports all my life. I am a karate black-belt, and have played football (soccer) at a semi-professional level. When not working, you'll either see me watching sports, or playing it, or at the very least writing about it. I believe sport is the one tool that can bring together people from varying walks of life, and the unifying nature of its existence is often underestimated. For proof of this - look no further from the news that North Korea has agreed to send its athletes to compete in the Winter Olympic Games, due to start in lesser than a month in South Korea. What's more, they are also going to march together under a unified flag and form a joint North-South team for the women's ice hockey event. With the current political situation that has been created, I can't think of a lot of events that could have such a effect on two sides that aren't particularly on the best of terms. I'm constantly trying to see how I can make sport take a higher precedence in the development of a nation like India, in my own little way.

In conclusion, I'd like to think of myself as a pretty straightforward guy. Apart from sports, I'm into my music, entrepreneurship, politics and policy. I look forward to dabbling with these topics and more on Steemit.IMG-20171106-WA0005.jpg
