Introducing PixelHosting

Free Image Hosting for Steem Projects

Hello Steem!

During the past weeks and months a lot new projects based upon the steem blockchain had started. A lot of them allows their users to share images they made with the community. Storing images can be annoying... You need servers or a webspace, make backups and finally: You must pay for it.

PixelHosting is a free image hosting service for steem projects made by @utopian-io's lead developer @wehmoen. Interested project owners can easily apply for access by sending a mail to [email protected] and introduce their project.

We provide a fully functional REST Api powered by AWS to upload images with a maximum file size of 5 MB. You can find our documentation on apiary.io. All images are stored in multiple S3 buckets and are delivered through our own global CDN powered by cloudfront.

Right now we support png, jpg and gif images. More file types are planned and will be integrated soon or upon request.

The API and CDN, a npm package and a jQuery extension are already fully functional. We hope to support a lot of steem projects in the near future. Within the next weeks we will launch a landing page with more information and a signup form. Until then don't hesitate do ask you questions below this post.

In the New Steemians project, we help new members of steem by education and resteeeming their articles. Get your articles resteemed too for maximum exposure. You can learn more about it here: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@gaman/new-steemians-project-launch

Great work @wehmoen. I will definitely be using this for my images in Steemit and Utopian.
Cheers,

Welcome to Steemit pixelhosting. Let me know if you got any questions about Steem or anything related to it! The official FAQ can be found here and has A LOT of information https://steemit.com/faq.html - Also remember, Steemit is just ONE of the sites built that uses Steem the blockchain. We also have DTube - our very own Youtube, DSound for Soundcloud and Steepshot if you prefer Instagram like experience. I'd also like to mention ChainBB - forums, Busy - Steemit with more modern look basically, DMania for memes and Dlive for streaming just like in Twitch! You can also earn Steem by gaming now! Search for Steemgar if that's more your thing. Welcome to the blockchain! :)

Why don't you host on ipfs instead? Does s3 amazon offer unlimited storage?

Hi @tngflx,

IPFS is unstable and still under development. I would need to run several servers with ipfs nodes where I can pin my files. Otherwise I will have the same problem as d.tube: Files disappear.
And yes. I can store unlimited images and other data in s3 bucket. I attached a screenshot from amazons faq:

Well amazon do have downtime too haha. Risk of using centralized service. But anyway great initiative! And how is this different from steemitimages?

We use buckets and cloudfront distributions in different regions and we use the geolocation dns function from route53. I think its decentralized enough.

Wow you clearly have no idea what it means by decentralization. And FYI, your product is redundant and useless.

I'm sorry to hear that you dont like the project. We already have project owners using PixelHosting and an increasing rate of requests every day.
