My name is Pavel and I'm a software engineer from Minsk, Belarus. I'm fond of programming, like solving computer science problems and always curious about how things work. Enjoy travelling and music.
I was passionate about Bitcoin long ago but at that time I never realized that blockchain has so many applications outside of just financial transactions. It is now obvious that blockchain projects are the future of technology and soon we'll see our world being a more decentralized place. Steem is one of the greatest examples of blockchain-based platforms I've seen so far.
I first heard about Steem from @hipster at FinTech Hackathon Minsk 2016.
Our team presented a concept of Ethereum Vending Machine, a smart autonomous economic agent that is able to charge you for snacks with Ether and pay itself for operating expenses. Special thanks to @hipster for mentoring our team and @valery-litvin for deep involvement and collaboration.
Later on, I've read Steem Whitepaper which proves that Steem has strong theoretical basis and is not just a "good idea based" startup. I believe Steem's model of financial incentives for contributions instead of cognitive and financial transaction costs combined with betting on participants with long-term commitment interests and performance of Graphene might just kill some of the existing centralized social media services.
So I'm happy to be here with you guys being able to make my small contributions to Steem community.

Pretty amazing stuff. I feel like I just discovered bitcoin for the first time again but instead of reading through pages and pages of bitcointalk to figure out what the heck is going on, I have this beautiful interface and amazing community to learn from. Cheers!

Indeed, the same feeling as when I discovered bitcoin around 2010-11.
At that time I had thoughts of making my own simple BTC exchange service but arguments like "who the hell is going to care about the 1$ worth volatile toy coin?" persuaded me to focus on other things.

I built an ecommerce company over 9 years ago, and I still work on it daily (somewhat like creating a job for myself). We have a great a team and a great product serving an important niche, but there are days (like the past 2 since I've been on Steemit, for example) where I feel like I'm trying to improve on the buggy whip as a Ford drives by... We'll see. Maybe I'll poke around a bit with the Python client and come up with some ideas other than a faster horse.

Thank you! We'll be rebranding aspects of it as Foxy.io to focus on being more of a hypermedia API payment abstraction layer for more interesting hosted services (as opposed to just websites who want to sell stuff). I worked hard to get our merchants using bitcoin, but unfortunately very few jumped onboard. Maybe some day that will change.

I think there are good thoughts on this matter in the middle of Solving the Cryptocurrency Liquidation Problem section of Steem Whitepaper. Accepting a volatile currency introduces significant accounting overhead for merchants but eventually merchants should accept any currency if it increases their sales (assuming there's a way to deal with volatility). The number of bitcoin users grows 10 times each 2-3 years so yes, that is a question of time.

Well said. We integrate with Coinbase and BitPay to try and eleviate any volatility concerns but I think, ultimately, it comes down to not doing anything unless your customers are asking you for it. More unfamiliar payment options could lead to more support costs. Moral of the story: get out there and bug your favorite merchants until they accept bitcoin. :)

We've built a mobile app to simplify interaction with the machine but you can also use any existing mobile ETH-wallet like Jaxx to buy something. Just scan QR-code the machine shows to you and press Send.
