My Bucket List

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Everyone runs away from making a bucket list (including me) because of its intimate relationship with the idea of dying. Bucket list. A list of things to do before you kick the bucket. Get it? However, our perception of this reality has failed us because the true essence of a bucket list is not to frighten us with the idea of death, but to remind us that before death, comes life, which must be lived to the fullest!

This is what the top of my bucket list looks like.
PS: If you, have already made a bucket list, here are 5 more items that as an unspoken rule, must be on that list. If you don't have a list yet, well here's the ultimate 'Making A Bucket List Starter Pack'.

1.LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE.
I first got intrigued with the Italian culture when I read à novel by John Grisham which was centered in the city of Bologna. Ever since, I've been intrigued by everything Italian from sport cars to Spaghetti Bolognese .

According to Ellen Bialystok in York University in Toronto, bilingual students have a much higher brain power. Bam! Intelligence on a platter! But learning a new language is not just about increasing your IQ; it increases your confidence, helps you discover new culture, improves your employability, makes you more open minded and improves your travel experience Besides, if it’s your favorite language, you might as well go on and learn it simply because “La Vita `e Troppo Breve". Life's Too Short!

2 TRAVEL TO ANOTHER CONTINENT.

Okay, this is a tricky one I must admit. This is because while some people love to travel the world and are financially comfortable enough to take exotic vacations to the beaches of Dubai, some people, although possessing the same love and passion for travel are limited by the rusty chains of financial constraints. But a bucket list is not about things that you can achieve in your comfort zone and offers you a really long period of time to achieve these things; your whole life! Before you die, seize every opportunity (as long as it’s safe) to see the world from a different lens. Whether on a student visa or a family vacation or even a business trip, hop on that pĺane and go somewhere different. What if you're young with no money or visa? Sign up for scholarships, apply for international programs, join international communities. All these would at least give you a chance to travel the world.

  1. MEET A STAR.
Not just any star. Your star!

That one person who inspires you; an artiste, a writer, a poet or even a reality Tv star. Buy a ticket to their show or their exhibition, partake in a charity event they're involved in. Do whatever you can (except stalking of course!) to meet them and when you do, don't forget to capture the moment!

  1. FALL IN LOVE.
"Love is giving someone the power to break your heart but trusting them not to" Give that power to someone! Feel the thrill! Hope to God that they don't break it but if they do? It'll hurt like hell but you'll come out stronger!
The first time I fell in love, I was young and naive. I did get my heart broken but it was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything!

5.WATCH THE SUNRISE AND SUNSET.

I've saved the best for last!
If you've never watched the Sun rise and set then you haven't experienced the simplest form of beauty yet! These effortless but continuous processes remind me everything has a beginning and an end and that, is what makes life valuable!
