My introduction post - 1 day late

in introduceyourself •  4 years ago  (edited)

Hi there Steem. I found out about Steemit through a recent economics grad that I worked with at a temporary government job I had found myself in when I transitioned from an old school powerline engineer into a entry level energy policy analyst. That was 2.5 years ago and Steem had been on the back burner. I decided to take the plunge into this registering into this network because I figured it was time to increase my awareness of social media tools and try to understand blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

My first impression of the concept of mining cryptocurrencies is that it is the era of the geeks who are on a mission to upend the status quo of financial institutions and amused themselves with curating board games into real life. Some of it is philosophical too. Who is to say that coupons (like tokens) have no value?

While I do have a reddit and twitter account, I barely make comments because I am deterred by the gush of vitrol there is behind anonymous names. Everybody has an opinion, but not everybody has tact or an open-mind to approach debates.

I feel that due to the complexities of navigating Steem tokens and cryptocurrency, the type of people who join the network would be open-minded and respectful in engagements, hence this is the reason why I decided to join. I also think Steem would have great potential to be a leading platform for constructive dialogue between people who want to be part of a resourceful on-line community.

As in the world out there the same with steem world full of diverse individuals. Last time before there was a fork/split in the steem blockchain, we have lots of vitriol individuals in here, but most of them have moved to Hive Community/Hive blockchain/copy of Steem Blockchain. However, I'm ready and welcoming all kinds of humans into Steem Community as long as they live in harmony with others here. Nice to have you on board, I wish you a pleasant user experience in here

Thank you @cryptokannon. I am playing catchup here with Steem news. Some useful and relevant posts that I had read were from 3 to 4 years ago! And Steemit is sold to Tron Founder about half a year ago? I must admit I am a bit disappointed because it seems like startups formed from a great idea always get sold after a few years. Not a lot of entrepreneurs who want to wait once their product hits the desired valuation.

@random-advice yea you're right, now the captain of steemit is that tron founder and his team. I think from the way Ned the former founder speech, he just lost passion in this project, adding to the community that not supportive and often put the blame on him on whatever the slack in the development. So I can empathize with him and understand his whys. I think you will like the old community that has move to hive. Their reasons to move mostly because they cannot bring themselves to trust Justin Sun. They are good people there too and I think they're the most vibrant community in this space.
