Greetings from a small island in the Republic of Korea!

Greetings from a small island in the Republic of Korea! My name is David. My online moniker is Shuddy (sounds like buddy). Like most people, I feel a little awkward writing an introduction directed at a group of anonymous fellow social media enthusiasts. However, during Steemit’s relatively short life span, the “introduceyourself” seems to have become such an entrenched tradition as to practically be etiquette. So, here I am.

I'm a happy guy ... honestly!

I’m originally from Australia, but have been living on a small island in South Korea for nearly six years. I own an English school here and spend my days surrounded by energetic/exhausted bundles of enthusiasm/apathy. Regardless of their disposition, I love teaching children, and despite taking a substantial pay cut to be here, it’s easily the most satisfying job I’ve had. There are certainly worse places to live.
I grew up surrounded by video games, Shakespeare, Stephen King, Akira, MJ, the piano, bands, George Bernard Shaw, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Tori Amos, Albert Camus, Cider, and Kahlua. I studied law at university, fell in love with a woman, dropped out, followed my heart overseas, fell in love with billiards, opened a billiards room, studied journalism, worked in restaurants, studied psychology, studied arts and religion, studied Japanese, studied Russian, worked for the government, and have generally always shunned stability to find my own way.

I recently started drawing and find it extremely relaxing. I’m not particularly good, but like most things I do, I’m trying to be at least competent and I enjoy the process of learning a new skill.

I try to play the piano at least once a week, but my fingers aren’t as nimble as they once were.

I played snooker and billiards for about 15 years, and have made centuries in both sports, but there’s a serious absence of snooker tables in Korea, so I eventually started playing 9-ball. I don’t play as much as I’d like to, but I’ve won a few tournaments over here and picked up a few scalps, including a couple of Korean pros.

And that’s a brief snapshot of me.

I joined Steemit because I love the concept and thought it might give me some motivation to write, draw, and generally engage in some kind of online community. I find the supportive sense of camaraderie that Steemit promotes interesting and sometimes a little creepy. Everything here sometimes seems a little too cheery. Maybe that’s just my cynicism tainting a perfectly well-balanced, optimistic social hub.
