Introducing myself [GONE SEXUAL! no not really]

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

So this is it.

I finally joined steemit after what felt like weeks of motivational invites (straining nerves) from a friend (@zeroooc), who recently also joined.
"Dude, I'm tired of any other form of social media. I don't have time and or patience to start from scratch. The algorithms are everywhere, it's the same like - like - everywhere!", I wrote him.
"At least just introduce yourself. Honestly", he patiently replied implying this experience would lecture me otherwise.

So here I am (BRINGT IT ON, STEEMIT! :> ) sitting in Vienna, on my laptop, writing somewhat of a description of my life.

My name is Mascha. I am 25 years old. I work fulltime as a video producer and I try to break free from routine as often as I can.
Being an entitled millenial is hard, especially when you're actually not ( but are being labeled as such constantly ). In German I use lots of cringy phrases and/or words like "lol" or "omg", so I guess calling myself "sn0wfl4ke" here isn't too far off.
I am very much into everything. No joke. I can obsess over various activities, mostly artsy fartsy stuff (music, music videos, photography, editing, drawing, painting, sewing, singing, knitting, trying to write an opera about the cheese stand in our district, whatever) for hours. Sometimes it turns out to be bullshit and sometimes I get to surprise others by tiny little creative outbreaks and sweeten their day. Which honestly makes me very happy.

The only problem is: I've got way too many hobbies. Help.

There seems to be no real "red thread", no common string to what I do in my spare time whatsoever.

I'll try to examplify that:
Once I decided that I would become a photographer for a week and got my first "job" from a start-up from friends of mine.

They were all like: "We totally need a new form of social media. But like with marketing tools. And online-shops."
Me: "So... Like etsy or something?"
Them: "Yeah, but like more social. Oh and the main focus should be on handmade products."
Me: "But why should people use it?"
Them: "Duh it's gonna be so amazing people will have to use it! Anyway, it must be inspiring as fuck!"
Me: "Whoo, okay. Inspiring as fuck. Okay."
Them: "Yes and we also want a photo series for the landing page. Make it about uniqueness but also not. You know?"

Totes. Now you understand why I am being so cynical about social media, right?
I shot these photos in 2 days, organized several artists to participate in my first photo series for a social media start-up, that would never even launch, all that while working at another job. It turned out pretty good.

Unfortunately I hadn't had the chance to do anything with it otherwise than upload it on tumblr or facebook.
Maybe you guys enjoy that kind of stuff :>

Moving on: I once decided that I wanted to apply for the Viennese Film Academy and choose (for the "free montage exercise") to edit twerking butts to a very classic-epic sounding music they had chosen for the application.
Turns out, twerking butts and classical music work together just fine.

I sometimes take pictures of my stunningly beautiful friends. (do you ever feel? like a plastic bag? well, standing next to my female friends, surely)

And I have a somewhat eccentric ego, that overdramatizes lots of things by getting rid of all the saturation, leaving just silhouettes and dramatic black and white. Also, alcohol, cigarettes and singing Nancy Sinatra Songs:

I understand that there are lots of people doing the same things and that my approach is in no way special. This is why I've wisely chosen to call myself "sn0wfl4ke" only, without the "special". To indicate, that I am painfully self-reflected and aware of that.
But what I honestly yearn to find is a place, where I can shitpost stuff like that and maybe get some more exposure or recognition or whatever. It just makes me sad to watch posts disappear in my timeline forever.
So: Posting older and newer creative shizzle on here.

Don't expect anything, but also like everything.

Sincerely yours,
sn0wfl4ke

Welcome to the community
So glad to have you here. Your writing here was so refreshing and inspiring. I really look forward to seeing your future posts.

I also seek to...

"reach the hearts of people with a positive gesture"
That's always my focus with every post. It seems to work well as people on here want the real stuff!

I'm wishing you the best and want to affirm what you said. Just start! Write write write!

I'd love to hear your thoughts about my recent posthttps://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@biggiedip/when-life-gives-you-lemon-you-turn-it-to-lemonad-a-true-life-story

@biggiedip I think you have the right approach trying to get the conversation started here.

Hello Mascha, nice to meet you here. Congrats to your perfect video work! You’re also a gifted singer and photographer! Looking forward to more posts from you. Upvoted and following!

Hahaha!! I love well-curated shitposting! ;p Very pleased to welcome you! You’re gonna do great here. I’m a newbie too so just starting to find people to follow - I have a feeling I’m gonna love your feed! I upvoted and followed. Would love if you do the same! https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@thefirstnoel/hello

Word!

Oh my, thank you very much :> I already followed you back. Looking forward for your posts too. Have a nice day!

I'm just gonna come out and say it. For the first five or so times I looked at the photograph of your friend, I thought her hand was a cowboy hat. I don't know why, and I don't see it anymore, but I thought it was a cowboy hat.

I think you'll find it equally frustrating on here as compared to reddit or something, although, maybe with more incentives to convince you to say what's on the tip of your tongue -- or share a photo you captured.

Like anything, you'll be active in the community you form around you from following certain people and certain trends -- so it is whatever you make it to be.

This. You get out what you put in!
Well said @mstafford

Thank you for your honest reply @mstafford. I'm not expecting anything, really. Just wanted to give it a try.
Although I must admit I am (very) tired of following trends and people I am curious to what this is all about. I don't really get the "rules" so far, but I'm working on it. :>
Anyway, thanks for the insight!
Funny thing about the hand, though. Maybe you're not the only one perceiving it like that. Gotta ask more people about it. :>

Your intro was so good I just had to resteem this. Welcome to steemitbloggers btw!

Couple of things:

I admire millennials. Us older people whinge about you having it easy but in actual fact you guys have it the hardest. Unaffordable housing, excruciating university fees, and all the while us oldies are fucking it all up for you whilst simultaneously whinging about you having it easy. I take my hat off to you!

Also, look up steemit open mic - I think you'll be VERY popular over there. I LOVED your singing!! I'd also recommend just posting a video too!

I'm quite excited to meet you actually :)

Wow, this is the warmest reply ever :> Thank you so much for that! Means a lot to me, honestly.
I'm kind of even confused as to how many comments I've gotten so far. Seems like there are some people who still care about... random creative stuff after all :)
I will definitely consider posting the song cover alone. Thanks for the input.
Will definitely check out open mic too!
Have a nice day, kind Sir :) @raymondspeaks

Please do! I think you'll have a very good time over there!!

I think people are amazing, seems you already know what your amazing is! Roll with it :)

Not a problem. I'm just an old fart trying to better the world one step at a time haha :)

You too!

Hi snowflake ,welcome to steemit. Greetings know, happy to get acquainted with you. I ucin a photographer, if you like about wedding photos you can stop by my account called @non-block. Thank you nice to meet you.

Well, well, well.
It seems there are not just minnows, dolphins and whales anymore...it seems now there are also #unicorns!

You know, I'm not usually one to endorse a lot of stuff lightly and I was obviously super sceptical as well at first. I think we are investing in a really exciting technology here. But I think you are a special kind of genius and that this could be a good platform for you with your art, video and music. It took me a few days to figure out the basics but then it was pretty smooth sailing.

Some of the coolest communities to get you started are #steemitbloggers and #steemit-austria

@mammasitta: Check out this epic person. Really dope stuff straight from #Vienna. Let's give her a warm welcome!

Happy trials.

Welcome !! Nice to meet you. Follow each other and come see my blog and vote.
I will upload beautiful pictures and designs myself.

Welcome to Steem @sn0wfl4ke. Feel free to follow me @kanasite and upvote. Cheers :). Also check out my latest post about blockchain https://steemit.com/steem/@kanasite/bitcoin-prices-plunged-will-it-rebound

Welcome to the community. I love your work, and I'm definitely gonna follow you

hey, thank you :> I followed you back!

WOW...welcome to Steemit! Funny, pretty, and talented....I think you'll go far not just here, but in general. And I think you've given Nancy Sinatra new #lifegoals with that voice of yours. Can't wait to see more from you !!

Thank you very much @blunderbabe :> Motivates me a lot, honestly.
I'll try my best! Greetings

I still consider myself newish because I haven't been consistent. At first I wanted to post daily because I put up some travel article I'd written years ago, and it made like $75 (which I thought was a fortune...and still is compared to anything else I've posted lol). Then I got all caught up in the upvotes, and money, and wrong things and totally abandoned the account for 5ish months.

Back now, just using it for entertainment, and to squeeze out some random thoughts - and much happier. I'd say - do not aim to post daily, because for most of us that's an unrealistic goal - but maybe say you'll post once a week, or every 10 days...then anything you post beyond that means you've exceeded your goal.

I'm pretty shit at going into the discord chats and all that...but if you have the time, that's where you can really meet people and gain engaged followers. By disappearing and coming back - I screwed up because whether I realized it or not, there were quite a few people reading and engaging with my stuff.

Since there was an update on the platform, voting power changed, and now people are more conservative with their votes. As I'm sure you know there a bunch of artist/musician communities on here - and not gassing you up, but I bet you'll gain a significant following - and quite possibly - at least side gig money if you do stick around.

My unsolicited 'advice' lol. Isn't that the best kind ;-) Happy holidays too! (and have some cigs and boos for me please...busy growing a life inside of me so had to stop all fun substances...I miss cigs. God, I miss those delicious killers...and wine....sigh)

Welcome to Steem! You have put together an amazing intro post! Keep posting like this and you will find an audience for sure.

Yes BRINGT on steemit. No problem. Anyways enjoy your time in Steemland. Have a nice day.

Willkommen Mascha :)
