I am a sassy woman from NYC who tries to bring creativity and love to the world through my art, music and life. I hope to engage, inspire and be inspired in this community. My name is Brenda Brewer.

Some of my various endeavors are:

  • International Recording Artist Soul Sista Shakti, Brenda Brewer – Lounge, Chillout (and some house and dance)
  • Writer – articles on various topics most notably DATING (sometimes satirical), Love, social domination through the lens of evolutionary psychology, healing through PSYCHEDELICS and other stuff

I have been in the music business since I was 15 and a professional recording artist for 10 years. I have have contracts with major publishers and minor publishers. My music is centered around spiritual and emotional upliftment. Mostly :) If anyone has any questions about the music business I would be happy to help. Here is one my my tracks I did with long time music partner Aandra:

I am in an intimate long term relationship with my mountain bike. I am a mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, daughter and friend. I worked in IT for 15 years.

I am in recovery from severe, debilitating C-PTSD as a survivor of heinous sexual crimes and mental and emotional abuse as a child and teenager. I write about that as well. I am active in a NYC support group that helps people navigate their way through their recovery. I am a volunteer for the HORIZONS Perspectives on Psychedelics conference here in NYC where doctors and scientists from all over the world present their findings on their clinical research studies on treating people with PTSD, addiction and other mental health issues.

I was a Women's Studies/Psychology major in college. I dropped out after 2 years. I was a student on NVC – Non-violent Communication for 2 years. I am now a student of Radiant Mind – Buddhist thought without mystical or metaphysical connotations. I am an atheist.

My hobbies are riding my mountain bike, dating, attending lectures on evolutionary psychology, ethics and stuff like that, hanging out with my friends, dancing, tripping, making music, trail running and going to the beach. I hope to learn how to do cartwheels soon.

I am the creator of the hashtag #ilovemen I just made it up HA HA.

I really love that song. i'll check for more from you and Aandra.

#ilovemen that's awesome!

Oh I did heroic dose of psilocybin multiple times. These were the most awesome experience in my life by far as well as the most scary one.

Bienvenue sur steem!

If you like super soulful jazzyyu maylike our track "Take Your Time" (We were called Ladies of the Deep at that time...have a few releases out under that moniker before she came out as Aandra). Yes, I also took a heroic dose once...OMG so funny...I'll have to write about it but I ended up passing out, i had a babysitter at my house with me taking care of my son and making sure everything was OK. I emailed Terrence McKenna the next day and he emailed me back about my experience and he said YES I talked to those beings too! And proceeded to describe to me his interaction with this other dimensional beings HA HA HA HA HA! OMG whata life I have had! :) That was a long time ago.

I love "Take Your Time". I've listened to a couple more and really love the vibe.

I didn't mention "passing out" but it also happened to me. In fact I'm very skeptic about those who claimed haven't taken such dose but doesn't pass out or as I love to put it: pass into the dreamworld. I'm so stoke we share this experience. I can't wait to share more with you!

Awesome and thank you :)

All I've ever had is alcohol, I've tried a few puffs of weed a couple of times but couldn't really feel it's high that much, may be the dosage wasn't enough. I've heard about Magic Mushrooms but never really met anyone who has consumed one. Can shrooms take your life?

@thshering-tamang Shrooms can be toxic in high doses. So there is no reason I can think of why anyone would want to take that high of a dose! I don't think it can kill you, though.

One of my favorite benefits of psilocybin mushrooms other than sheer joy, fun and ability to process emotional trauma, they provide pain relief. I am now diagnosed with Bi-Polar II and one of my symptoms are muscular-skeletal pain and severe muscle tension. The last time I took 1/2 dose of shrooms it provided pain relief for 4 days straight. Amazing. They are also given to people who are dying of terminal illness (Johns Hopkins University and New York University clinical studies) and they provide pain relief to them as well.

Welcome, Brenda! I'm enjoying your song as I compose this reply; thanks for sharing it!
"social domination through the lens of evolutionary psychology" -- wow, I would Love to read that one! I try to stay up-to-date on evolutionary psych. I'm a big fan of Steven Pinker.
Psychedelics -- interesting as well! I'm a huge fan of '60s psychedelic music and definitely feel "mind-revealing" going on when I listen to it!

I LOVE Steven Pinker! I saw him in a dialogue with Robert Wright (author of "The Moral Animal" and "Non-Zero: The Logic of Human Destiny" whom I have attended 6 lectures by) last November. Pinker's style guide to writing "The Sense of Style: The Thinking Person's Guide to Writing in the 21st Century" adorns my coffee table :)

It must have been wonderful to see Pinker and Wright! I have "The Moral Animal" but the other is new to me so I'll have to check it out. "The Blank Slate: by Pinker really educated me on many concepts about Human Nature. I've read it 3 times.
Also, I represent Queens! But been years since I lived there. Still love NY! :)

I grew up in Richmond Hill :) I have to read blank slate! I have been salivating over it but haven't had the time yet...jealous ;)

Pinker ROCKS!!! :) Until you can read the book, there is a 24 minute video of a Pinker TED talk on The Blank Slate, here:

It was WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL my friends are I were giddy with glee :)

THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO. PINKER!!!!!! LOVELY TO SEE YOU AGAIN!!! He came and spoke FOR FREE at Union Theological Seminary to dialogue with Wright and I went to Wright's entire lecture series my friends and I had FUN!

Hey Brenda Brewer, love the music

Thank you very much!

Hi Brenda!

Hay Leah :)

welcome, Brenda. I love the diversity of your interests & endeavors - can relate, also being a musician/DJ, writer, psychonaut, psychological-explorer myself. sounds like you'll be an excellent addition to the community here with your create talents and life experience... :-)

Thank you it's nice to meet you

Welcome Brenda!

Looking forward to read some posts in the future, especially about psychedelics :)

Wonderful. I am currently reading "Psychedelic Healing: The promise of Entheogens for Psychotherapy and Spiritual Development" by Neil M. Goldsmith, Ph.D. as part of my research. He is a practicing psychologist here in NYC and also spoke at the Horizons conference. I saw him speak most recently at the Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn a few weeks ago on "Psychedelics and Death" his talk was within the context of ego death, it was really good. That and another trip and I should have some good material to flesh out. He he :)

I do have already written "PSYCHEDELIC HEALING SAVED ME FROM A MONSTER" I will be posting shortly, it has already been published on 2 other platforms including stellabelle's Medium publication "Into the Raw."

Wow welcome on board - really cozy sounds :)

Thank you darling <3
