Hello Steem! So, I'm a mechanical engineer, or was. I quit my job.

That's me holding a boot. I'm posing for a profile pic for halfsoles.com exactly 23 months after I quit my engineering job. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's rewind.

For 5 years I worked at Hewlett Packard in San Diego. It was my dream job, but it didn't make me happy. So, I quit and moved with my wife and 2 boys to Costa Rica.

It was awesome.

"Why Costa Rica?" you ask. Because we needed a reset button. Costa Rica was new and exotic. We needed new and exotic.

Exotic is awesome, by the way.

We even made some amazing friends.

After 9 months in Costa Rica, we got poor and lonely for family, so we moved back to the USA. The boys were amazed at how big everything was. And how people spoke English.

I thought for sure I would have to bite the bullet and get another engineering job. But then an opportunity came.

You see, I love boots. I taught myself to glue on my own rubber sole protectors to protect the leather soles. It turned out to be easier and more effective than I thought it would be. People started asking me how I did it, so I made some how-to videos and put a shop. Turned out to be a good venture.

It's funny how life works out sometimes.IMG_20150420_150739.jpg

Recently my wife and I started a business together teaching science and engineering classes to homeschoolers (happy summer, by the way!). This year we had 175 students. But that's another blog post.

Peace on, Steem.
