Introducing #SteemGirls: A Network to make more girls familiar with cryptocurrency + The first SteemGirls Story of Zerrin and her trip to Mali!

My name is Zerrin, I am turkish but living in Hamburg, Germany.

This should work as a verification, right? ;)

I recently turned 26, and celebrated my birthday a few days ago with my family.

I have 4 siblings (all sisters!) so as you can imagine, there was never a quiet or boring moment in my childhood!
I grew up under modest conditions, my parents didn’t have a lot of money but they still worked very hard to provide the best possible life for me and my sisters, and I am very grateful for that.

I always had fun dancing as a kid, so when I was a Teenager I went to a free Hip Hop Dance class for socially disadvantaged kids, taught by Winchester ( @sirwinchester ) and we became friends.

After finishing school, I tried many different Jobs, and found my profession in the gastronomy industry.
My dream would be to open up my own restaurant one day!

I'm also a Make-Up Artist and model, but just as a Hobby.

I have always been someone who is very concerned about others. I love helping people and making them smile. That’s why I love holidays like Christmas – seeing other people opening presents and being happy is the biggest gift for me! I’m one of those people that would share even my last 5 Euros. Like I said I never had a lot of money in my life, but for me, seeing other people happy is worth more than anything else.

So this year, I had the opportunity to visit Bamako (Mali, West Africa).
It was really an experience of a lifetime!

I was there for about 2 weeks to help out at a school, take care of the smaller kids, help prepare food for the kids, support them with learning English etc.

I have never felt so fulfilled when doing something in my life!

Because of my appearance, I was like an attraction once I walked down the streets. All the kids wanted to hold my hands permanently – I believe I had about 1 kid holding each of my fingers!
It was so rewarding seeing their smiles, and although I may have helped only a little, I would love to do something like this again.

These kids had almost nothing, no toys no technology, most of them lived in slums and didn’t have access to clean drinking water, but still they were so incredibly happy!
It makes me think about all those kids in western culture, growing up with iPads and TV’s, and they complain about doing their homework. These kids see education as their chance and love going to school!

Well, currently I am back in Germany, working my day job as a Restaurant.
I would absolutely love to go back or do something like this again, to travel to a foreign place (which was really like a whole other world to me) and help those people who are less fortunate than us.

I have heard about cryptocurrency and Steemit from @sirwinchester , and although I don’t know a lot about it yet and I’m still a Rookie, I’m very interested in the concept behind it.
I think the steemit community is very supportive and can probably help me to learn more about it, and I’ll definitely create my own account as well and see where it goes.

Cryptocurrency is a male-dominated industry.
And I think that should change – especially now with Steemit, a Social Media Platform where everyone can be involved!

Hi Steemers, this is me, @sirwinchester writing now!
To support Steemit, it’s important for us not only to post content, but also to spread the message and introduce new people to the platform. Cryptocurrency is something revolutionary and has an enormous potential in my opinion. The price of Steem and the movement won’t grow if we don’t support the creators all the others of the Team! and do our part to help Steemit gain popularity!

That’s why I have decided to create this new network: SteemGirls!

I have built a female team that’s very informed about cryptocurrency and steemit.
They will interview female friends, acquaintances but also strangers and write about their life story on this Blog. The interviewed person receives 50% of the rewards that the Blogpost has earned. A proof of this will be posted on steemit later.
In return, we will explain the concept of cryptocurrency and steemit to them, help them set up their own account, and hopefully make them passionate about cryptocurrency and make them spread the word about it even more!

This was the very first story for #SteemGirls, stay tuned there is much more to come!

statistically, there are now more women than men on steemit! (alexa stats!)

very interesting, I didn't know that!

There's nothing preventing women from getting into cryptocurrencies. If they are not getting into it, it's because they are choosing not to, or have other interests. Why is it that #SteemBoys isn't necessary?

I'm not saying that SteemBoys is not necessary, or that boys should be treated differently than girls.
It's just a fact that there are more male users in the cryptocurrency world.
You can start the project #SteemBoys - but I started with the girls. Ladies first ;)

Crypto can be pretty hostile towards women. I suspect there are many more women in the space than we know who choose to keep their gender to themselves.

I think if you are going to be making posts on the basis of charity then there needs to be some kind of way to confirm that it isn't a cynical ploy to just get extra dollars. Sorry if I sound suspicious but we have seen so many scams that one has to be these days.

the photos and videos are already a verification proof, and also this post isn't about charity, we're not trying to raise money for children here. We are just creating a movement for girls to get involved with cryptocurrency & steemit.

Isn't that what the steemit-girls thing is though? You are giving 50% to those you interview. Perhaps I misunderstood. Anyway it's a good idea whether used for charity or not.

I didn't know you were talking about that specifically - yes you are right, we will prove that we are giving 50% of the rewards to the person that is being interviewed. We will make a video about it where we prove it and where we thank you all afterwards :)

Great like I said it is a good idea that's why I upvoted it. Spread the word, help others and you improve your own SP and community reputation. Also there is no reason why you can't also do more conventional charitable stuff too. I think it is a win-win situation and that's why it's best to head off scam accusations at the beginning. I look forward to seeing how it goes and hearing more:)

I agree with you, of course verification is a very important step. Thank you very much for your feedback and your comment, we will definitely post more and post the proof later on. there's more to come ;) let's make steemit grow!

wellcome

Actually, I don't understand either why crypto should a male thing. And to be honest, since most of crypto activity happens behind a keyboard, the gender doesn't even matter... You can pose as a man or a woman, actually no one really cares.

agree with you 100%. This stereotype that "only men can do technological stuff" is outdated!! Women and men should be treated equally in 2016

sounds like a great concept - you have my upvote!

thank you for your feedback!

Nice to meet you

yay girl power :)) For sure amazing article!! Great job!

that cake looks delicious ^^
happy late birthday and also great post, hope you can do a vacation like this again and tell us on steemit about it!
welcome to steemit!

Sounds like an awesome project! Looking forward to more posts an reading lots of interesting stories from women. keep it up

thanks for your feedback! We will be posting a lot more content so stay tuned!

I'm one of the few girls here on steemit, and something like this was neccessary! I'm excited to see where this goes

thank you! #girlpower ;)

ohh I would love to visit africa one day too! I can only imagine how happy you must feel to make those kids smile :)

it was really a life-changing experience for zerrin, if you ever get an opportunity like this, you should definitely do it too!

what an amazing and heartwarming story. how did you get the opportunity?

it was one of her friends that was involved in a charity project over in mali :)

Last year, I visited a children's clinic in vietnam to help out (I'm studying to become a doctor) and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. So amazing how helping others can actually help YOU feel better!

awesome! These experiences are truly one of a kind!

welcome to the club I'm 26 as well!

nice to see a verification in video form for a change ;)

thanks ;)

Go #SteemGirls! Yesss Girlpower!

hahahah yes! #GirlsUnite

happy belated birthday :D

👍really cool pictures

thanks! :)

I love this Idea! Very interested to read more stories!

thank you, there is more to come!

Your footage from Mali is awesome, would be interesting to hear an in-depth story about your experience there!

maybe Zerrin will do another post solely dedicated to this experience!

You're so right - the people that don't have much are sometimes the happiest! Those kids growing up without phones or toys only play with sticks and stones, and still their life is fulfilled!

100% true, while the kids in the western world don't appreciate what a comfortable and blessed life they already have!
