The @steemfreepress account has been created in order to utilise the skills and talents of the steemit community in order to create a real world publication with the intention of promoting the steemit platform, the steem blockchain and all of the related issues that arise from the technology, as well as disseminating information to the general public that they might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity of being exposed to via mainstream news sources.

The plan is to do this in a way that allows them to gain or expand their critical thinking skills by exposing them to aspects of our society that aren't readily apparent or even obfuscated and allowing them to form their own conclusions by encouraging them to further investigate subjects which they previously may have given little consideration to.

The initial intention is to create a one off magazine with the hope that the cost of printing a limited number could be funded in part or in full by rewards or donations from within the steemit community and distributed freely, either by handing them out to students at universities or to commuters on their way to and from work etc. Or even, if practical, by providing them to members of the homeless community in order that they might receive a donation from a member of the public in exchange for a copy of the magazine. All rewards from @steemfreepress posts will be used to cover the cost of printing and related costs and all expenditure will be accounted for. There may also be the possibility of allowing a certain amount of space within the publication for steemit based advertising that is in line with the ethos behind its creation. These funds could either be used to increase our distribution or could be used directly to help those in need.

If this pilot project is successful, then we would look to continue producing the publication as well as expanding distribution. There will also be a copy of the completed magazine published on the steemit platform from this account.

In order to create our magazine, as I mentioned, we aim to utilise the talents and skills of the community here on steemit by inviting them to contribute in any way they feel they can, whether that be by writing articles, designing artwork, editing, proof reading, curating submissions or even just suggestions for what you think should be included.

For the pilot issue, I will be making posts in the coming days requesting submissions for specific stories that I'd like to concentrate on for the first issue. One of these will be a 'What Is Steemit?' article in which you will be invited to submit an article in 1500-2000 words explaining in simple terms what exactly steemit is to the general public. I'll be looking for the article that I feel best reflects and represents the platform and that does so in simple language.

All submissions should be made to #steemfreepress and all will be subject to the editing process.

I'll also be requesting submissions for more articles covering various subjects, submissions for cover art, masthead design, and much more as well as asking you to nominate your choice for a 'Feature Steemian' article, so please keep an eye out for these also. Going forward, this account may be used for other related projects but for now the main project is to create our pilot magazine.
