I'm All In: My Introduction to Steemit!

in introduceyourself •  8 years ago

Hi Steemit community! My name is Whitney and I joined Steemit last week. My husband and I were on a cross country road trip, so I used the down time to learn about this community. After voting and commenting on some great content, I’m excited to finally jump in!

Thoughts:

I’m a newbie to blockchain technology, unlike a large portion of the population here. My husband is the one who has been into bitcoin and ethereum, but purely from a speculative/investment point. I knew nothing about how blockchain operates until I was introduced to Steemit. I see a huge potential here and after learning the basics of how blockchain operates, I feel that this is the future of the internet. It’s very exciting to be involved in the beginning of something that could have such an enormous impact on society.

However, just like anything new, Steemit is ironing out its kinks. In the past week, I saw the aftermath of the-hack, I saw a few users personally get hacked and I saw people complaining about which posts were upvoted. Just like anything that involves humans, this platform is not yet perfected, but the potential is limitless. Thank you @ned and @dan for seeing that potential and creating a platform for it.

A few posts that I found really helpful as a newbie to Steemit:

Steemit for Dummies: https://steemit.com/steem/@infovore/a-curated-guide-for-steemit-new-users-my-journey-to-becoming-a-better-streemit-user

On security: https://steemit.com/steemit/@fyrstikken/steemit-security-exchanges-and-why-by-a-guy-that-has-been-in-crypto-since-2009-new-people-read-this-now (although it looks like steemit now generates a safe password for you, and no longer encourages creating your own)

About me:

I’m a 30 year old who previously was a slave to a 9-5, but the past few years my now husband and I have taken time off to travel. We are finally ready to settle down and create a home together after getting married this past March. We met volunteering abroad, so travel has and always will be part of our DNA. Even with a place to call home, it remains to be seen how much time we will actually spend there.

 (Us, Nusa Lembongan, Bali)

In addition to seeing the world, I love making old things new, learning about living a sustainable lifestyle and cooking. I also want to learn more about gardening. Sustainability is important to me, I feel it is the key to opening doors to living your dreams. If you create a lifestyle that sustains itself, you create freedom and more time to do the things you love, like travel, art, writing, etc.

I look forward to sharing more of the things I learn along the way transitioning from a nomad to a homemaker, as well as past and future adventures.

Hey Whitney. You're blonde and holding up a white sheet of paper. You know what that means?!?!?! You're about to make a lot of money on this post!

Thanks for the comment @trevonjb! I hope to contribute quality content to the site in the form of my life experiences, DIY how-tos, cooking and travel guides. There's a lot more to me than just the hair! I visited your page but I haven't had time to view your videos yet. Looking forward to learning from you and others here!

Its funny how this bias has grown, But I did think the same thing when i upvoted It. But regardless more people using steemit regardless of what they post is better. Theres an audience for everything.

Thanks for the vote! :)

Thank you for linking to the posts for newbies! I just joined Steemit last night, and similarly to you, I joined because of my SO who knows a lot about crypto currency, and I know just a few basics. And I'm also intrigued by the use of the block chain, and am looking forward to learning more. So thanks again for the info!

Awesome! Great to meet you.

Welcome :)

Thank you!

Check out my blog link to gardening. There is one in there with an amazing way to garden. Oh... Here is an upvote.

Amazing, definitely will!

Hi! Just read your post! Very interesting that you're an aerialist! Love it.

You guys should check out the Big Sandy machine gun festival if you get the chance to do so.
