I enjoyed your post, the oldé worldé feel is a welcome style to the eye. It reminds me that my great grandparents were around during the steam engine era.

Your idea of being on the Facebook of the block chain may be better fulfilled by the dapp @busy they make steemit more comfortable for those of us accustomed to the Zuckerberg of DOOM.

You may not make a lot of money here, but if you want to, the potential is here. Many frown on the use of bidbots, but you can buy your way onto the trending page with them if you have a few hundred dollars to spend. Do the research. This is where people buy votes from bots.

There are quite a few communities around who help new folks fund their way. One group which has helped me quite a bit is the @minnowsupport project. It's a huge community, they are putting radio shows on the block chain through their station @msp-waves. There is a lot going on over there.

Another group which helps is the @welcomewagon, they make content and mentor new people. The folks over there are very helpful.

One last thing before I ramble on. I use Stack Edit to work on my layout. You seem to have a pretty good grip on layout, Just thought I would share.
