Hello everybody! My name is Devon and I'm a new member of the Steemit community

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Let me start by saying I love the Steemit platform and what it's about. Everyone on here has been a pleasure to speak to and its just straight up the best social media platform I've ever used!

My name is Devon, I'm from Maryland, USA and I'll be 33 on January 16th. I'm the father of one beautiful 3 year old girl who is my world. I am self employed and consider myself an hustler. I am a hip-hop artist, musician and studio engineer, have been in the music business for over a decade. I also have recently gotten into the cryptocurrency market, compliments of a friend of mine who is also a Steemit user. I am doing OK, but still learning, so I invite any and all tips, knowledge and advancement I can possibly get.

Please feel free to FOLLOW me, check out my music and help me become a solid member of this community! I hope to meet more great people on here! Have a great week everybody!!

Welcome!

Our children are a blessing!

Hopefully she is a very important part of your life!

The absolute most important part of my life! She is the main reason i am dabbling in the investment market, so i can put her in a good school one day :)

Hello, Devon, and welcome to Steemit.

To "put her is a good school" is a noble goal. Even before then, teach her well!

Below are a few basic points of advice re posting on Steemit.

  1. Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of 20–30 paragraphs, it's more likely to earn rewards.
  2. Include some photos, images or graphs, to complement the text.
  3. Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

Thank you for the advice majesty! I want to ask if you dont mind, what styles typically do the best on here? Are people more willing to read a lengthy post? I came from social media platforms like Facebook......where pictures and noises are the only thing that appeal to most fo the users lol. I'm really trying to get a full dig on everything before I go at it full speed. Do you have examples of lucrative posting on here?

I believe she deserves to go to a good school and be as educated as [possible. Thank you for that! I work with her alot, she is a brilliant little girl. My goal is to keep society from "dumbing her down", because she is meant to do amazing things in this world!

Yes, apparently longer posts do better, if only because they will be (may be) appreciated by the whales, and that might lead to more lucrative upvotes. At the same time, if the whales do not find your posts, then all the work you put into a long, interesting post might earn you only a few bucks. It's a tough call.

I've posted some lengthy PhotoDiaries of India, and some of them earned over $70. So, I spent even more time doing research and writing about Indian society and culture, and those posts earned less than $10. (If anyone can tell me why, I'd love to hear it.)

Eventually, I powered up. Now, instead of spending 2-3 days compiling a massive photo diary, I post single photos, tagged to a photo contest by @juliank, and each post makes about $10 now (after the recent jump in the price of Steem.) Nice.

Still, it's probably a better strategy to make longer posts. Compose posts about whatever you love doing, or something you are passionate about, and other Steemians who have similar interests will eventually find them and read them and reward them.

Here are a few successful Steemian blogs ... https://steemit.com/@sweetsssj ... became successful with her travel blog here on Steemit.
https://steemit.com/@dollarvigilante ... had a great newsletter before, then just transferred all his subscribers to Steemit.
https://steemit.com/@jerrybanfield ... a successful "marketer," who replicated his success on Steemit.

One major point is ... You HAVE TO attract followers and build your community / network. You do that by just scrolling through your feed, finding posts that you're interested in, and upvoting / commenting on them. (Like I was doing when I found your intro.) Some of the people will follow you, and eventually, your rewards will grow.

p.s. This reply is way too bloody long. But I'm sure you'll appreciate it to a certain degree, and even other Steemians might read it and find it interesting. Oh, and since I spent a bit of time composing it, I'm gonna give myself a small upvote for it. All cool and kosher.

p.p.s. Many of my posts get comments such as "great post sir" or "Every post is excellent." It get's rather irritating (remember F_c_Book?!?), but now I just ignore that nonsense.

p.p.p.s. I used to teach English to Japanese and Korean students. They learn well. Sometimes too regimented, but they never let a good mind go to waste. They study hard, they learn plenty, and they go places. And many of them do "amazing" things. Your daughter will too.

Welcome to Steemit Devon! From Normal, IL here and just got started in cryptos last month. I once dabbled in making hip hop beats but that was a long time ago.

Have fun here and don't give up easily. It will feel like it's going super slow -- keep plugging away.

Hi Michael, thanks for the introduction! I'm finally getting the hang of Steemit, it'll grow, just like anything we put our efforts into. What do you do primarily on here, blogging, art??? I'm trying to get a feel for how everyone operates on here.

Thats awesome that you used to dabble in beat making. What did you use? Do you post work? I have an album releasing soon, ill leave a link to a pre release track on here. Feel free to give feedback on it :)

How has the crypto market treated you thus far? I have had a few losses, but for the most part, im ahead of the curve. Up over $1000 currently (i started small lol). Let me know, id like to share info and opinions, predictions, etc.

Nice! I'm like 15 days in so I've been playing around with a few things. Playing some poker right now. Steem is incredible, definitely get some (not official investment advice blah blah blah lol).

I write for a living and love small business, but this crowd is more about cryptos, which is a new love for me.

Beats: believe it or not, I used a U.K. program called Hip Hop Ejay (they had different versions too). I wouldn't use a lot of their samples, but they had solid drum machines and other tools.

Cryptos: Up just about 15%. It was much higher. So far I've been too impatient.

Yea, I got in right before Christmas, it was a pain getting through the exchanges, but it finally happened and i let loose lol. What do you stock your portfolio with if you dont mind me asking? Are you long term investing or short term?

Id like to see some of your works if you have any up for me to see! I understand the impatience lol it has stung me hard a few times!

Hello, how are you doing? Welcome to Steemit!

I'm doing very well mike, thank you for asking! Hows everything going for you my friend?

I'm doing great, thank you! Let me know if you have any questions about Steemit.

What is the best way for a musician to share his work with the community on here?

You can upload videos on here and Dtube. Did you register on Dtube yet? You can also upload an audio file.

No, i havent registered. I looked at it briefly, but am not 100% sure what it is?

It's basically a decentralized YouTube and it connects with Steemit so your videos get upvotes.

How exactly do I get registered? I'm in full support of Steem, so anything affiliated is going to be my first choice in posting my material! I really appreciate your insight and help!

iam new member in steemit community..kindly support me ..i will follow u back and upote u..thanku

Welcome to Steemit Devon! I'm pretty new here too I just got done with my first week, everyone's nice and I'm loving it so far. I see your bday is coming up so is mine on the 24th. I'm using Steemit as a music blog and I share hip hop occasionally, usually old school stuff

Hello! I just "followed" you on here, I'm very interested in reading some of your work. If you'd care to, i have some music I'd like to share with you. If you ever want to talk in regards to collaborating on a piece of your work, I'm more than up for it. I have a great amount of ideals and such you might find a good fit for a writing piece. For the meantime, here's a track of mine I just released, it's a pre-release for an upcoming album of mine, dropping later this month. I have more of a lyrical, meaningful way of putting my works together, I make true hip-hop music, not the dumbed down stuff out today. Let me know what you think, let me know if you'd like to work together and please stay in touch!

I liked it! I was down with the chorus. Right now I'm going through the music in my own library but I'll reach out if I want to do a collab article down the line. I wish you the best on steemit man, just followed you back

Welcome to Steemit Devon!

Thank you! I followed you, please return the favor!
