Hello my name is Terry and this is my story. I have 3 beautiful daughter. My middle daughter Shelby was a very sick baby. When she was 18 months old finally the doctors found out what was wrong with her. Sadly the frist doctors we had did nothing to help her or me. I would call him every night cuz my baby was crying in so much pain. Never once did he offer to see her just saying she was get teething or a ear infections. This went on for almost 2 weeks of calling him every night. Then one night I called him cuz I couldn't get Shelby to stop crying. I called the doctor again at like 1:00 am. This time the doctor could only say "listen Mrs.Kristoff I know your husband works night (which my husband work 10pm to 10am.), And you are lonely but you need to stop calling me in the middle of the night. Furthermore I can't hear you so you need to go put Shelby down so we can talk". I said" Shelby is in her room down the hall with her door shut". He told me you need to get her to a hospital now. So off to the er I went were they found out my daughter has type 1 diabeties. Her sugar was over 1000 when we got there and off the the picu we went for 7 days. As we were in the hospital the doctor that was no help for months came to see and I wouldn't even let him in the room, so standing at the door he tried to tell me how sorry he was and that Shelby taught me a lesson and will never treat another parent that way. To me I just wanted him to go while I watch my baby girl in 90% dka. As the days past Shelby got better. After about 10 days Shebly and I went home. Over the next couple of years Shelby was in and out of the hospital only to learn that she was having problems with excepting the insulin. As the years past the ambulance trips from home school or friends house became more and more. There wasn't a kids or a parent in our small town that didn't know all about Shelby she has no privacy. Year and years past with no change. Finally 3 years ago Shelby almost died to what we thought was the issues getting worse, but Shelby has given up and didn't want to be sick anymore and was trying to kill herself by stopping giving herself insulin. In her mind she was done with it all. Being so smart she would give insulin in her pump but disconnect the tubbing. So it looked like she was giving herself the insulin, but the insulin was just going down a drain. It took a very smart doctor to crack her. He was screaming in her face until finally one night in the hospital he was screaming at her and she finally screamed back " I don't want to live this life like this anymore. I am done". As she was crying so hard I could believe my ears she was only 12 and wanted to die. The doctor stood up and look at me and said now we can help her. Over the next 19 months Shelby has lots if coulseing. 2 years ago the couseler cane to me and said they think starting over were no one know who or what Shelby is all about would be healthy. I then sold our house and moved everyone to Flordia.
It's been 2 years we have been her and Shelby has not been in the hospital once. She is very happy with her school and friends. She is handling her illness with a new out look.
Everyday is a new hope and a new dream to come true for her or me.
Thanks you so much for listening to my story about one of my children. I have many many more story I will update her and my other daughter stories.
