@testwallet Introduction - About Us, and Guide to Changing Your Password!

in introduceyourself •  6 years ago
This account was created several weeks ago, in response to users losing their funds and otherwise exposing their private keys in transfer memos or in posts/comments. Our bot's goal is to give a helpful message to such accounts on their Wallet page or in a Reply to a post or comment.
While it is a few weeks behind @noblebot who is currently sending a message via wallet transfer to accounts which expose their password, @testwallet has successfuly prompted several users to change their password so we feel it can also be helpful.

The following is a guide for people to change their password. @testwallet will start linking this post in its comments to provide further information to those who may not realise what they are doing.

When you first get your Steemit account you will have encountered the following message:

It is in relation to the sixth rule: Do not tell anyone your password (or private keys), that people seem to slip up on.

The following sections outline the messages being sent from @testwallet, and the reason you should change your password.

Owner key - The most dangerous
n/a Checking for Owner keys has not been implemented.
This password, often referred to as your Owner Key, can be changed here, and is used to generate the remainder of keys for your account.
This key, if exposed, will most likely be used used by a malicious party (or hopefully a friendly one) to change your password. If this happens, you should immediately initiate Stolen Account Recovery here: https://steemit.com/recover_account_step_1.

Active key
It appears you have exposed your private ACTIVE key as a memo in a recent transfer. We suggest changing your password before another user can maliciously use it; taking your funds, making spam comments or upvoting their own posts with your account.
This password can do do everything on your Steemit account such as transfering funds, and posting content and voting. The only limitations to this key are changing password and reading encrypted transaction memos.
This key, if exposed, will most likely be used used by a malicious party (or hopefully a friendly one) to take your funds. Regardless of who succeeds, your should immediately change your password here if you suspect you have exposed it.

Posting key
It appears you have exposed your private POSTING key as a memo in a recent transfer. We suggest changing your password before another user can maliciously use it; making spam comments or upvoting their own posts with your account."
This key, if exposed, may be used used by a malicious party to upvote their own posts or make spam content on your account. You should immediately change your password here if you suspect you have exposed it.

Memo key - The most common
It appears you have exposed your private MEMO key as a memo in a recent transfer. We suggest changing your password before another user can maliciously use it; reading any encrypted messages sent to your account, or pretending to be you on services such as Minnow Booster.
This key, if exposed, may be used used by a malicious party to read encrypted transaction memos, or to verify your identity on third party websites. You should immediately change your password here if you suspect you have exposed it.

Changing your password:

Go to https://steemit.com/submit.html and fill out the form.
Make sure you follow the Seven Rules.

Future development goals:

  • Only reply once to a particular post. @testwallet currently replies everytime a transfer occurs exposing a private key, and has no limiter.
  • Send users a comment with instructions to recover their account when they expose their Owner key.
  • Implement a timer to ensure comments don't fail when two users expose their password within 20 seconds of each other
  • Automatically restart script when connection to API is lost.
Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Hello testwallet! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
