Let's Shift the Paradigm

Who I am

sojourner.jpg

On paper, I’m a master of health promotion. My education has taught me a lot about health problems. Chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure, were the focus of several courses. Obesity was cited as one of the main contributors to a lower quality of life and related to many of the highest rated causes of death. We talked about the benefits of diets, of surgery, and of exercise.

There are a lot of things we learn from primary research, but there are a lot of things we miss when the results are broadcasted. What I didn’t feel like I learned was how to promote health. . .

Why I’m here

What I want to use this platform for is to promote health by shifting the paradigm.

Weight Loss
Health Gains

What I have to say

For a long time now, we’ve been all about weight loss. We want to look better, and it’s nice if we feel better. “Lose weight or know that you’re cutting your life short” is an ultimatum that is not uncommon from doctors to patients who are suffering from chronic disease.

Here’s the thing: WEIGHT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. It is, however, a product of the problem.

For example: if the product of the problem is that the washroom is flooded, the actual problem could be that a pipe sprung a leak. Do you A) continuously mop up the water or B) fix the leak and only mop once? If you know what the actual problem is, it’s easier to fix it. If you don’t know, the problem persists.

What is the problem then?

Most of us are too busy to spend quality time taking care of the only body we’ll live in, in this life. Our environment includes wonderfully calorious foods, minimal need for expending energy and all the distracting entertainment, including a deluge of information on nearly any topic you could dream of.

Conclusion

To maintain any kind of health in this type of environment requires a real, conscious effort. Our mission is to catch the interest required to motivate a real, conscious effort.

Let’s begin.
