Hi Everyone!
I think this would be the first time in my life to write something in more detail about myself besides saying “my name is Sandy and I am from Taiwan.” However, in the spirit of the New Year, where resolutions are made left, right, and center. What the hell, let’s try!
Sooo, I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and grew up in Bangkok, Thailand. One of the most common questions I would get is “Oh, so you are half Thai?” Not at all. When my mother was pregnant with me my dad got a job there. She only flew back to Taiwan to give birth because back then in Thailand, the hospitals were not as medically advanced (according to my mom).
I was always a restless kid till one day I discovered Photoshop…CS3 hahah! I started with family photos that were in my computer and I tried to swap faces of my family members with each other. Pretty terrifying stuff LOL.
Then moving on to learning how to remove pimples of my photos (Yikes!), making my skin look nicer and adding make up. On my weekends it kept me out of trouble. I would stayed locked in my room till 4am or even 6am sometimes taking photos and learning to edit them in different ways.
Once I got better with Photoshop I then found Illustrator and started to play around with that too. In 2006 I went to my dad’s trading company in China and was able to help him with his product photography for his clients and even creating a set of toy Halloween lanterns and it’s packaging for my dad.
I live in Bangkok for 23 years then near the end of 2011 I decided moved to Taiwan to get back to my “roots” if you will. I can still remember on the plane with my sister, I was excited to live in a new country (not really for her cause she already moved back I think a year before me). We have always been together through just about everything so it was awesome to be back with her in a new place. She is definitely a lot more social than I am and always has been I am someone who likes to observe before I decide whether to approach or not.
When we landed in Taoyuan Airport I damn near froze to death…it was 14C and I have been used to temperatures all year round in a tropical country being 35C – 38C. We made our way to the bus station that took us to Tainan City in the south of Taiwan where I have been living for 7 years. I must admit it was quite a culture shock for me when I got here. Trying to speak and decipher Chinese. A lot of the mannerism, way of thinking, the food and social etiquette I was DEFINITELY NOT used to. I hated it…with an unbelievable amount of passion, passion I thought I never had. So in my mind what better way to deal your problems than drinking it away (not the most mature way to do things but hey, I was 23). So teaching English and partying, I was at low point.
Then things started to change. I was happy for the first time in what felt like a long time. I made some new friends and I could hang out with, without needing to go to a bar or a club. Near the end of 2014 was when I picked Aerial Yoga. I got dragged there by my friend. I hated working out! All my life I would rather starve myself and wear shoes 2 sizes too small for me for a month, than workout. But it was here, where staying in Taiwan sounded better and I met amazing Taiwanese ladies at this yoga studio who befriended everyone with an open heart! People that really cared about you even though you meet them only twice a week.
I started taking 2 to 3 classes in a row whenever I went and became close with the boss. She is a sweet and positive woman and gave me the career I have today. Without her I would not know what state I will be in now! She gave me the opportunity to teach at her yoga studio after I got my certification and was always there to help and support me. BIG THANK YOU TO HER! She was also the one who gave my sister a position at the same yoga studio! Now the Ng’s work together! My sister teaches
I have been teaching at Ocean Aerial Studio for 3 years now. I am the Core teacher. I train my student to build their core on hammocks, traditional floor exercises and now TRX. I have been very blessed to be surrounded by positive and loving people. May my adventures continue!
Well that’s my life up for now
