2018 Audi S8 Review Specs and Price

Audi A8 was introduced to the world in 1994, and in 1996 the European market highlighted the first Audi S8 – a reinforced A8 version. Since then, the S8 has undergone two generational changes again with the last one taking place in 2012.

A lightweight facelift occurs in 2014, but the S8 still looks a bit dated. Now, we can finally look at testing the next gen model on Nürburgring and, as expected, will use the updated Audi design language. Unlike the current model, however, we expect the 2018 S8 to derive a 4.0-liter V-8 that supports the 2.9-liter V-6 found on the Porsche Panamera.

Obviously, this is the initial prototype, so it still shakes the unfinished front fascia and all kinds of cold and spinning camo. What we can see, however, is that the car’s nose will now be shorter thanks to the new Audi’s grille design. Compared to the old design, the new grille is much shorter than before and much wider.

Still sports with a hexagonal shape, but the edges in the upper corner are now much longer than before, while the bottom corner of the grille remains unfolded, giving the grille a more modern look and welcome changes. Thus, the hood now has a gentle contour that helps shape the nose and is not obstructed by the top edge of the grille. Another easy-to-spot change is the new light unit. The headlights have been renamed altogether and are now thinner than before.

If the new S8 sports all the air dams altogether, it will be rather thin, and no bigger than the one side of the monster of the lattice. The air ducts in every corner are not completed based on this prototype, but I hope they become slightly smaller than the current model and will likely feature some stylish grid types to follow some thin fog LED lights. Expect to see the new headlights feature new lens layouts with updated LED strips. The hood looks somewhat skewed, but there may be little additional definition added to the body line on each side.

Moving to the side, I do not see much difference to discuss. The contours around the wheel arch at the front and rear look the same, as does the body line protruding from the door between the front and rear wheels. One thing that has changed in the side profile is the upper body line. In the current model, this line moves from the back of the taillights and lies between the belt line and the door handle. In this spy shot, we can see that the line has been moved a bit. Now looks to feed the contour lines of the front wheel arches and walk parallel to the doorknob. This is not a big change, but sometimes it’s the little things that make a difference. The side view mirror has also changed slightly with the top edge switching to the lower corner smoothly.
