So we also want to introduce someone who is fundamental to the operations here at Working Class Publishing – pinup model Ginny Rosewater. She works with us in a variety of capacities: advertising model, promotional model, booth staff, and social media manager. She’s probably going to pop up in plenty of our posts, so I’ll spend some time talking about how it is she came to be so important to our business.
We first saw Ginny in 2013 at a Pinup Contest in Stevens Point, WI called “Miss KKOA North.” It was a small car show at our local park that wasn’t very well-attended and never happened again. It was the first pinup contest we had ever been to, and it occurred right around the time our business niche was shifting to the vintage lifestyle/ kustom kulture scene. Little did we know, that was Ginny’s first pinup contest as well, and one of her earliest forays into the pinup world.
In late 2014, after we started production on “Girls” by Shannon Brooke, we decided our website needed to be updated to better reflect our new products (prior to 2014 we had a basic template site with a more traditional style). We set up our first photo shoot in order to get images for the site, and looked to the contestants of Miss KKOA North (the only pinups around here at the time). We hired Ginny and another model, Angela May, and shot them in a local bar.
We learned a lot in that first shoot – mostly that we are not photographers and need to take lots of pictures to get a few useable ones. We also learned that Ginny is a naturally photogenic, hard-working, and talented model. She’s also just a laid-back Wisconsin girl who’s fun to hang around with. That’s why when we were planning our first big release at Viva Las Vegas 2015, we hired Ginny to come along as a promotional model.
Although she had never done any professional promotional work, and had never been to Las Vegas before, Ginny really surprised us. She’s pretty, but super approachable, so strangers are easily comfortable talking with her. She’s also amazingly comfortable handing out flyers and engaging the public while wearing short-shorts and a crop top.
After that first Viva, Ginny popped up in some of our other products – stickers and t-shirts. She also helped us out with a last-minute shoot for an advertisement in Viva La Femme Magazine.
She continues to travel with us to sell books and help promote out brand. We try to have some fun when we’re on the road, though. Here’s us at a bar in downtown Nashville after the Nashville Boogie.
In October 2016 we updated our website and brand again, and hired Shannon Brooke to shoot our new marketing material. This time it featured Ginny and a wonderful model from Madison, WI named Kitty Hagen. This is still the stuff you see on our banners, ads, and website.
In additional to working with us, Ginny has continued to shot with photographers all over the country and take her pinup career to new levels. She started a pinup group called the Midwest Rockabeauties, edits an online magazine called Urban Pirate Pinups, and is the organizer/ host of the brand new Miss Iola Pinup Contest at the gigantic and long-running Iola Car Show. She was even one of the models featured in Shannon Brooke’s newest book “Vroom!”.
So now you know Ginny! If you’re ever at one of our events feel free to stop by and say Hi. She’s awesome and we’re lucky to get to work with her.
