Short Intro for Wigbold

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Soooooo, new to SteemIt, Cryptocurrency and Blockchain (other than a bit of reading)

Saw a Wired article on Steem via Digg[1], and after determining it wasn't like STEAM (which some of my kids are into), I still decided to join. I don't expect to make a lot of money - none, really - but the concept of blockchain has intrigued me for a while, as has the kind of micro-$ market which pokes its head up on the internet on occasion. In deciding to join, I figured SteemIt would be similar to Google Maps (which pays you for reviews by meaningless status-thingies) or Facebook (which earns money off of any content I create and like I 'earn', and a bit similar to Google Survey, which regularly pays me about $0.10 for me telling them my household income (and they ask often enough they know it to the nearest $100 :-) and other tidbits.

I'm by nature skeptical, and this is no different, but SteemIt seems well thought out. We'll see if Julian Assange joins :). I have no particular desire to remain anonymous, but I don't want the association to be made too easily, and I definitely don't want anything I say to be associated on Social Media with my work life, as I try to keep it separate. But, Wigbold is really a part of my
identity - second middle name -, and I do use it in some other contexts (even Pokemon Go) ;-). And, to prove I am not a bot, here's a poor picture of me holding a handwritten sign. (People still do this outside of a thing to shame scammers?)

Learning about the crypto world in interesting & fun.
Good 'brain food' IMHO

Don't forget to read up on "keys" & passwords.
Basically don't log in with your "master key"
Use your private posting key.

TL,DR: You should have ALREADY saved your PASSWORD that was used to generate your keys
Next go to Profile >Wallet > Permissions and copy paste all FIVE keys to a safe place.
(eg a text file on a memory stick)
The “OWNER” key is the ‘master key’, keep it VERY safe
Daily logins for posting should use your Private POSTING key.
Once you have copies saved, log out and log back in with USERNAME & your POSTING key
Hope that helps some.
$0.02

Saved both the P/W and all the keys to a safe location. Thanks

No probs. It's the login part that is important. Don't use your "master key". Else if you have a problem 'they' can access your millions $ (subject to your blog abilities :-) )

Welcome aboard

So far, my value went down from $0.56 to $0.55 :-) I'm not counting on this as a nest egg. Appreciate the advice though, and logged back in with my private posting key.

I think it's the bitcoin fork, that is causing the others to drop in value ATM.
But Steem is only really just getting started....maybe a FB replacement or something like that.
So early days yet. I wish I'd bought into bitcoin a few years back!
But it's a start into learning about crypto if nothing else.

Welcome to steemit. Hope you will have a great time here.

Tx!
