HELLO EVERYONE!

I am stoked to be publishing my first ever online "article" in this space. I've researched slightly in regards to this platform and came to know that there’s an implicit tradition to dedicate your first article to be a self-introductory post. I am a firm believer and follower of tradition as I believe it inculcates personal values that are essential to live by. I had originally planned my first post to be regarding my experience and take on a topic that is ubiquitous at a point in everyone’s life but that will be a story for another day!

So, here goes my little introduction tidbit.

First, a little about myself. I am Wei Xuan, born and raised in Singapore for 23 years now. I came across Steemit through a favorable mention from a close friend cum beloved colleague of mine. He encouraged me to leverage on this platform to voice out the thoughts I often keep to myself and to showcase the side of me I often feel the need to hide in my current circles because of the fear of leaving my “safe space”.

Initially, I was hesitant on even starting on writing on this platform.

“What if people have negative thoughts/comments about me and the content I contribute?”

“What if my friends happen to chance upon this, what will they say about me?”

Ultimately, I just stared on at my laptop screen for a good 30-45 minutes before I finally realized –

I was so focused on what I could lose doing this that I didn’t even stop to think about what I could gain – a more confident self, a community where I can grow together with like-minded individuals without feeling the need to hide what’s probably the best part of me, all whilst being rewarded for continuously developing myself into a better man than I was yesterday. That demolished all my hesitations and fear towards writing this.

Thus brings me to my purpose and how I hope to leverage on this platform –

Within my group of friends, I have always been the “clown” in the clique. I am always pegged as this “happy-go-lucky” childish character who doesn’t have a serious side to him, like I don’t have any plans for the future. As time goes by, a protective barrier started to form around me. I was apprehensive to showcase the serious side of me where I talk about my future plans, my direction in life and the kind of ventures I’d like to do. I was afraid that once I start to surface this part of me to my circles of friends, my peers will think I am just a “wanna-be”, a phony and begin to have a negative impression of me. I was so bounded by these intangible concerns that I was robbing myself from the opportunity to grow as a person.

Hence, I want to leverage on Steemit to build on my self-confidence, to unleash this side of me that not many have seen and to grow alongside a community of like-minded individuals that’ll support and learn from each other’s adventures in life!
