Hello everyone, introducing myself! My name is Priscilla Hernandez, I create music, photography and art

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Hello everyone! :)

Who am I

My name is Priscilla Hernandez. I am a composer, singer and illustrator from Spain. I love Fantasy, Nature and photography.

Priscilla Hernandez

Most of my music, artworks and photography could be considered "fantasy". Why this genre? Since I was a little girl I loved reading fantasy literature and illustrated fairy and ghost tales, so I went on creating fantasy "stories" as metaphors of my own feelings. Sometimes I would write a story or a poem, then draw to illustrate them, eventually music and songs as a "soundtrack" to an imaginary movie. I loved these things as a child and my adult self remained faithful to it. I like to think I became a "storyteller" and as a grown up I have the excuse that I'm conveying it all into my art. There is an "spectral" undertone in my art sometimes and it´s inspired by "sleep paralysis" a disorder I have since I was a child (I will explain this in detail in other post, because it is very interesting)

Music

I have two released two music albums: "Ancient Shadows" and "The Underliving", both combining my music with my own drawings and illustrations: I have also published several stand-alone singles and collaborations. I am currently working to release a new illustrated music project called "Fear no More". I love composing and at the beginning I thought I would be too shy to sing my own songs, but fate proved me wrong and I became a performer too. I have several independent music awards and have made concerts in different countries.

My music is a mix of film music, vocals, soft electronica (keyboards is what I play the most) and folk instruments (harp, flutes, hammered dulcimer, kantele, among others) I have a passion for rare instruments. Some songs are ghostly and haunting, others more uplifting.

I also make the videos with my partner @hedac who, by the way, encouraged me to join this Steem community. We work as a team and he helps me to take most of the pictures of me in nature when we hike together.
This is "Grow" videoclip, one of my recent singles:

The sweet struggles of the artist life...! Despite humble resources and a passion for "not mainstream genres" ;-) the fire still blazes and I hope to keep on creating. It´s been my journey for almost two decades already, and I'm still fully devoted to it. Thus, this might be just the first time you know about my work, and if you are curious enough to check and get to know it, so far this effort has been worth :).
I follow my dream wherever it takes me but I confess I would love to work composing music for fantasy films one day.

I also enjoy to perform live online from my studio

Illustration

I have drawn all my life, and I've been an illustrator longer than I've been a musician. When I was a teenager I wrote "Yidneth" a graphic novel that inspired a great part of my later work. I often link my music and paintings together and in fact both of my published CDs are full of my artworks. My next album in the making is more an illustrated book with a soundtrack attached to it.

The Underliving cover - by Priscilla Hernandez
Cover art I drew my album and digibook The Underliving that included a booklet of drawings too.

I love both traditional and digital art but I confess I still need to doodle and ink the "old conventional way". An example of conceptual black and white sketch below:

Nature

I love to hike whenever I have the chance. I find the connection with Nature a healing and inspiring experience. It also reminds me that we live in a beautiful and privileged planet but also keeps me aware how frail it is. Very often you can find me dressed in costumes in the forest and improvising aloud like a minstrel in the woods. Many of my songs are born in the wilderness.

4 quick random facts about me:

I do not wish to overload this introduction post, I feel it´s too long already. So I hope you find it curious enough to check, or to follow me to know more in the future.

  1. I speak English and Spanish (my native tongue) but I love singing in other languages too
  2. I was born in an oceanic tropical island
  3. I am vegetarian
  4. I love animals, and I love rats. My pet rats starred in some of my videoclips

I'll be adding some "random facts" about me in following posts, or maybe explain some aspects of my work more thoroughly.

Thank you

Don´t be afraid to say hello back, I´ll find it encouraging :)
Steemit is new to me so I welcome any advice you can share.

My official website is http://yidneth.com or https://priscillahernandez.com Yidneth is not my name, but the trademark I created for a comic project and then my own music label. Friends call me "Pris".

Thank you very much for reading until the end!!! If you made it here, ask me anything you want to know. For more, follow me into the woods!

Jeez @yidneth, you are a talented lass! There is a very Celtic vibe from everything you posted. Your dress sense, your art and your music. Are you sure you're not Irish :). I love it all by the way, beautiful stuff and very enchanting. I'll be back for more ;). So great to have you here and looking forward to following along. Thank you. I wish I had more SP to upvote you with, so I've added a resteem to help.

Aw, thanks so much for the shout out. I really hike in those garments (not practical, but I manage to cover great distances). So usually under the fancy dresses you will find proper "hiking boots". I'm not Irish though I love Irish fairy tales. I was born in a tropical oceanic Island La Palma, but it´s a very beautiful green one, I live now in the North of Spain, very mossy and Celtic. I'll share lots of pictures of my surroundings soon :). Thanks so much for the encouragement :) it really helps a lot.

Hi sweetness, so glad you and Hector are using this platform! Super amazing community here! Keep rockin sista love and miss you!

Yayyyyy talk about something that can absolutely brighten your day... Probably the person I know in real life I meet here. Still experimenting but joined last January. I am so happy to meet you, and gonna stalk you now on haha :**** Following you and your discovery made me smile so wide my cheeks hurts.
And you know what?
Miss and love you too!
Hector us around too, he does not post much but he is.
When are we gonna meet? Want sparkles in my hair, you bouncing on a ball with your violin and quiet time with you playing one of your songs at the guitar!!! All love you give me back to you too.

welcome to STEEMIT Priscilla! just... WOW!

Your music and drawings and picturesque "fantasy world" imagery are all amazing, literally "out of this world" type stuff!

Needless to say, I really love your work, and I even found you on spotify, so I can listen to you there as well!

If you have a chance, you should also stop by the WhaleShares Discord Chat, where you can meet others on STEEMIT who I believe will also be captivated by your terrific artwork. :)

Thank you so much, I am honoured by your compliment, also for checking my work, I hope you like what you listen. Not all my discography is on spotify, there are some stand alone singles on my site and as videoclips. It has been a while since my last physical release and I hope this is the year I can release the 3rd if I manage to fund it. The Underliving is also an illustrated project so physical copies have a 54 illustrated pages booklet. About discord I recently joined but I have not used it yet. Same user name there but also a newbie and still not sure how it works. I will certainly have a look and visit the group and thanks so much for the welcome and encouragement.

I think you may find that STEEMIT can go quite a long ways as to helping you fund some of your various projects, as many other artists already on STEEMIT have discovered. And there are so many ways you can share your work too.

For example, many people are fascinated as much with the art, as they are with the "process" behind the art. For example, your "behind the scenes" for "In The Mist" would make for a terrific post all its own, which would make those enjoying the actual music and video appreciate it even more!

As for discord, there are many friendly helpful people in the community, and I'm sure you'll feel "right at home" in no time. Discord's great because it lets people interact with each other in real-time, both for voice and chat, and meet up for various events and other activities as well. For example, here's an event that was just held last night in the WhaleShares Community Chat...

I already "binge-listened" to a bunch of your songs and videos on spotify and youtube! Definitely an impressive body of work, and I very much look forward to experiencing more of it over time! :)

Thanks for the advice, I joined steemit as a new platform to get known, the rewards I'm just thinking about it as the tokens they are, and I will just focus on sharing my work and hope it reaches more people. Whatever it may come, welcome be, but let it be precisely the "reward" and not the "goal".
Thank you, I sort of thought of sharing the making of "In the Mist" myself but that requires maybe some days because I have photographic material, it was a good example of turning a drawing into video, and the resources were really really humble. I had a look at discord and I joined but I felt a bit overwhelmed but I'm sure I'll stay around. Trying to set up for a test on dlive and I was told about a singer-songwriters hangout called open mic. So much homework! Thanks for the welcome and encouragement.

I messaged you on discord, so feel free to hit me up there too if you have any questions, or feel you need some guidance! You may also find some of my recent posts helpful in that regard as well.

As for the rewards, that's definitely the right attitude. Just post about what you love, and what you're passionate about (as you're already doing), and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

And then one day you'll look up, and be like... wow, some of those "rewards" aren't half-bad either! lol :)

Thank you so much and will definitely check those posts. I am brand new at discord too I I will go and check it too as soon as possible. I am sometimes a bit slow in new interfaces but also very patient and determined, I think. Sure I will thank some guidance. Thank you 🎶

@yidneth, I've just actually set DLive up myself this evening, so if you need help with getting up and running or need someone to test it with, do let me know. I'm also on the Discord DLive channel which can be found here https://discord.gg/UUcRnX

How did it go? Did you try it? I do not even have an audience here. Should I wait? Just go for it? My biggest worry when live is that my internet connection has random cuts sometimes. I really do not mind to join and play. Does the video stays if connection fails?

Like the Nike add "Just do it" :). Not sure about the video, but sure if your connection drops we can discover how things unfold. I'm sure this must happen a lot, and anyway getting stuck in is the best way to learn. This would be useful for me also, so no worries.

Sure I will share, I'm still setting up. I have tried over other networks and there has to be something wrong with my connection because it does usually drops for me. But as you quote "just do it". I will share my experience.

The Underliving cover art is brilliant and so is the video. Loved it. More, please.

Thank you, thanks for the welcome and thanks for the encouraging word. Sure, I hope to share more, I just landed here and I'm a bit clueless still. Hope to get the gist of it soon.

Vow, beautiful song. One of the best I have ever heard, honestly!

Thanks for listening, I am working now on my third album and I'm still not sure if this will be included or will be a stand-alone single. But those locations are very close to where I live and I hike often. I appreciate the compliment deeply :)

Welcome!! I bet you are going to love it here.
Love the pictures and art!
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Have a nice day!!

Thank you, hope to share more soon. This feels a little bit like being the new kid in class. Thanks for the encouragement :)

We sense so much skills and talent from you. I'm sure Steemit will be happy to hear from you (even literally). Welcome to the community!

Aw thank you, I feel a little bit shy that I'm aware here everything works differently than I'm used to, and maybe that´s the right way to be. I´ll be having more time shortly to be able to get to know how this work and people around :). Thanks for the compliment, deeply. Sure, hope you´ll "hear" me :) thanks

Hi love, welcome to Steemit! You have so much talent in you. ♥ I know you will enjoy it here and there's a lot of contests that you can join. Try #openmic! Looking forward to your coming posts. Followed you now. Cheers 🥂

Thank you, I will do. I will have a little time in a few days to start to surf around and get to know how this work and build a bit of community. Investigating the live option too... still a clueless newbie.

Got some incredible artwork, followed you so I can see more in the future :)

Thank you, that is the intention. Thanks for the encouragement.

Welcome here in Steemit! You'll love it here! Your work is gorgeous, I'm excited to see more of you here :-) Good luck getting to know the platform!

Thank you so much, I have uploaded a few posts already, but sharing more soon. I am still landing. Thanks for the encouragement :)

@Alexpmorris threw me your way and said that I might love your blog. I do! Everything mystical is amazing to me and this is extra magical and enchanting.

I liked the song a lot, it is very nature representative, you can feel the green forests and rivers flow through your voice. It reminds me of Latvian(my native country) traditional songs, they connect you with the world as well.

Anyways, wishing you the most success on the platform, hoping to see a lot of you! Do not give up on us, steemians, I am sure a lot of people will admire your work!

Best wishes!

Hi @lindahas :) Thanks for stopping by and the welcome. It is beautiful you tell me it evokes in you memories of your homeland. I love traditional music too and I can recall a Latvian song about a Goddess of fog called Ligo? I remember some listeners from Latvia told me about it as I have one song called "In the Mist" and loved it. I will definitely check you back. Thank you so much and also @Alexpmorris for bringing you around.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I must admit that I do not know which song you are referring to. :D As for the Goddess Ligo, maybe Līgo, but I think it might be a different thing. I need to hear those song names in Latvian to to know what they are.
I did find some sings for you to check out if there is a spare minute :D

This one is very folk and very old music typical, it is a little different from what you do, but I still love how powerful this is

And this one is a softer Latvian song

This one is just beautifully made, plus I love horses

Sorry for spamming you with videos :D

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I liked the harmonies, thanks for the recommendations. Yes, I was refering to Līgo a goddess of darkness and Mist and there is a traditional Latvian song about it. I made myself a song "In the Mist" and some listeners from your country told me about the traditional song (that does not sound like mine but they told me they thought of their folk song). I checked it and found some versions I loved, but I wouldn´t be able to sing it as I do not know your language.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Haha, yeah, we have some interesting language quirks that are hard to use for others. We celebrate Līgo and Jāņi every year, it is even bigger than Christmas. We make fire in Midsummer, just like they do In Canary Islands by the sea and we stay up all day, make flower-crowns, dance around the fire, make sashlik and go swimming naked :D The day of Līgo is on 23rd of June and then the 24th is a day of Jānis

Thanks for the information, I really love myths, legends and folklore. I was born in La Palma, the greener of the Canary Islands. I loved the song but I´d not dare do a cover because I would mispronounce it, I remember the melody though. I play kantele which is the same instrument than the Latvian "Kokle".

Oh, that is cool! I lived in Cran Canaria for a year. My aunt has been there for almost 20 years. The hot weather was not for me, though :D

It is so cool to meet people who know so much! And kokle is such a historical instrument! I think there is nothing wrong with mispronunciation, it is the effort that counts! :)

I love my gusli, kokle, kantele. So next time you visit the Canary Islands make sure to visit La Palma. And thanks for your lovely welcome once more.

Wide repertoire of skills :) Both your photos in nature and art are beautiful. We are a studio full of love for fantasy so you got yourself a new follower. :)

Thank you, when you work on different skills you risk maybe not fully develop one, but we keep on learning. I make illustrated music projects so cannot really split them, they are a whole. I recall I saw some of your things, sure I will stop back. ❤️

Amazing! So glad I found you. I listen to mainly hard rock, BUT I absolutely love artist like Loreena McKennit and Enya, their music takes me to another place, like a fantasy, nature, celtic, magical place. Your music does that also it's amazing! I love the stories behind them and your illustrations are absolutely gorgeous.

The mention of coffee and your rat! I was going to get another one I couldn't believe how upset I was when mine passed, I haven't had an animal since, I think it was the first animal that I had for it's entire life. We even had a little ceremony for her.

Can't wait to hear more of your music it was so nice to meet you and see you sing! Your whole personality is very inspirational : )

Aww you are very sweet. As for coffee and ratties, call it destiny, but remember next time you have a rat, have at least two, they need rat companions to fully develop their potential and it is a joy to see how amazingly sharing are with each other. It is hard when they leave but remember those with you are not in a lab o in the sewers but loved and cared for. ❤️ Glad steemit has connected us.

I'm glad too!!! Yes, I didn't do my research and had just taken advice from the pet store about how to care for her. Next time I will probably have way more than just two : )

Welcome to steemit :) If you have any question just click to Follow on my profile and ask :)

Thank you for the welcome, I am just a newbie and I'm still a bit clueless I confess.

welcome to steemit, if you need some help just contact me at discord or chat, greetings from belguim

Thanks for the offer, still a lot to learn. Greetings back from Spain 🎤

your welkcome

Welcome to Steemit! Upvoted :)

Thank you ❤️

I miss my lovely pet rats! We have had three, Milka, Hershey, and then we adopted a rescue, Princess :) They are such sweet souls! I miss having them on my shoulder, chattering their teeth :)

Great to meet you briefly today in DLive. You’ll do great here!

I am so happy you tell me that, I am a "crazy rat lady" and well thanks for reading the random facts. My girls were Tuula, Ritva and Taika (Wind, Branch and Spell). They are gone but in my heart. I even made a song "No matter what they say" to rise awareness about how amazing and misunderstood they are. I will drop a picture of them later. I miss my girls. And thanks for the welcome. I will try going live again very soon.

Aw, thanks! It’s so awesome to hear about your little guys :)

I hope you enjoy this wonderful community

Thank you, hope to learn on the go :)

Great stuff, pics look very cool. Welcome from a fellow newbie here :D

Thank you :)
