First step then baby steps

Hello world !

It seems like the correct way to start off this Steemit adventure is to introduce oneself. It's not my forte but I'll give it a try, as this is the point of me being on Steemit.

My real name is Eline Zhang although I'd rather use Eli or ZE online. My personnal life is not secret but I always feel more comfortable using a pseudonym, as if it helped me better compartimentalize different parts of my life.

The part of me I like to share with the world, is one of a person who likes to draw, write, sing and play guitar, who's really into Harry Potter, a tat LGBT oriented. Someone who sleeps a lot, wants people to cheer up, who seeks interaction and who shies away from drama. Someone who seem to like to share their life openly but truth be told there is much I don't talk about. Especially if you want to be a positive presence on the web, why bother anyone with all the grim nonsense of life ?

Today I choose to share a bit more here. Not because Steemit seems like the place to share personal stuff, but because I want to try something else, have a new experience here and this is where it starts.
You have to be careful when sharing information about yourself, surely don't broadcast your phone number or credit card number for the world to see, but where do you draw the line ? Those who are more careful would say to keep everything personnal private, restrict permission, control access. Those who are most careful would advise not putting anything about you online. Yet most of us embrace the internet and its many sharing platforms, we thrive in infinite supplies of content, we build social webs of our own through these platforms. We like to talk about our day, hear about other people's day, share ideas, find peers. To me internet is not just a tool but a whole other part of the world, dematerialised but very real. And as much as in the real physical world, you can either choose to be true to yourself or put up appearances, I make the conscious choice of appearing on the web as true to myself as I am IRL.

IRL, I am 25. I live in Paris. I was born in France although both my parents where born in China. Genetically you could say I'm 100% chinese, I look chinese, I grew up reasonably surrounded by chinese culture, but I am French. I am a 3D digital artist and I currently work at Mikros Animation on a French 3D movie that should come out this winter 2018. I am efficient, hardworking and I'd say as friendly as I am discreet. I try to open myself to the people around me but it still is a conscious effort.
Describing oneself is quite a challenge when you have no confidence in yourself or what you could say about yourself. I am very much affected by the infamous Impostor Syndrome and I'm always afraid that whatever I might say about myself might change and one day proven wrong and that I would then be called a liar, a pretender. But people change, things change, ideas change and what is true today might not be true tomorrow, I have to accept that and yet I'd like to empathize on that point. Whatever I write today, might completely be irrelevant tomorrow. So don't take it for granted.

After all this all this rambling on, I guess I should explain what type of content could be expected from me. I draw, I write, I roleplay, I work on 3D animation movies, I'm French, of Chinese origins, I struggle with LGBT issues and mental health issues. Life is full of things and a person cannot be limited to a simple title or a few adjectives. I intend to share a bit more about my writing process, the roleplay dynamic and how it serves as inspiration in my art, as it is what I enjoy most sharing. But there may be much more, other things, other thoughts. I am not a column in a newspaper, I am a person and everything that comes with it. I hope some of you will enjoy coming along for this little ride on life with me.

Either way, it's nice to meet you.

Welcome to Steemit! Looking forward to more posts from you!

Hello ZE, it is nice to meet a young person who understands change, that it (something) was real in the past, does not make it relevant in the now, and may have no meaning in the future, Shit happens, and life grows and changes. Change is not bad, change is just change. It is nice, like I said seeing someone young that understands.

If you need help with anything there are a couple of groups that can help. @newbieresteemday, the art group @artzone, and there are a myriad of other groups.

I like that T-shirt - Checklist - Do nothing - Check. You mentioned you like roleplaying, I am going to go out on a limb here and think like as in RPG games. So since I am having a lot of fun, and several other people are having a lot of fun, I thought I would mention @IFC. That is going to be the new homepage for the Information Finding Championship (IFC) game being created by @apolymask on steemit. It is a very different style game, and it is growing and changing as it progresses. It is not to late to enter, as it is not (season 1) going to end until mid july. Just a place to have fun if you need some fun. Any of the players will answer any questions you might have. Well enough on that.

If you see newbierestemday in a title, or being used as a tag on a post, it is safe to ask any questions that you might have. If you feel bullied, let one f the newbieresteemday people know, (I am a member) and we will try to help. Other than that, I think you are going to enjoy steemit, give it time, growth does take time.

The T-shirt is from Qwertee ! I felt like it suits me well and eventhough it's not the most flattering message it sure is very true to me.
As for Roleplay, I do like RPG games but I am more into written roleplay which is more like a sort of interactive and collective writing. I'll be sure to try and clarify that it a future post and to check out @IFC !
Thank you so much for taking the time to welcome me and give me advice. So far I am enjoying Steemit a lot.

I am glad to see you made it to steemit @zelyn, thankfully @smylie2005 mentioned you in a few places so a lot of us were able to see your post and give it a nice little upvote. You have a very distinguished career and talented background and seem to fit on this platform just as well any of the rest of us, not as if there is an "ideal steem member," it's a very diverse crowd of excellent people on the whole, and that maybe the best thing it has going for it right now, at least in my opinion. I like that it's not segregated into groups of people that are exactly alike, but gives you a better chance to visit with people of all walks of life, across the world unlike other social media that has you wind up talking with only those of exactly like mind. I am very glad to see you made here, and wish the best of luck, @smylie2005 is a wonderful member of this community and is in a great group of people that help bring along people after they start right away. I make myself available to you if you have any questions/comments anytime I am always happy to answer any questions or concerns! Best of luck and enjoy your next venture @zelyn!

Thank you so much for your comment! It's really my first time writing something so long and personal and I always worry that my written English ends up sounding odd. I will do my best to have the best of adventures on Steemit and hopefully share it with a lot of people.

#newbieresteemday added to the tags ! Thank you for your advice :)

Youre most welcome! :D

Hello, Eli! .. I found your post because @wildempress resteemed it, and I'm very glad she did. It's always wonderful to find authentic, artistic people on here, especially when sooo many are here only because they think they'll get rich quick.

It's interesting to know that you're Chinese but also brought up French. I've never been to Paris but I've heard from some of my students that unlike the rest of France, they aren't so stuck up in Paris?

I try to open myself to the people around me but it still is a conscious effort.

I relate 100% to that, and a lot of the other stuff you said. For me, the internet has always been like a second home... And in fact, a truer home in some sense than all the physical places I've found myself in, which are always changing. (I'm from South Africa, now living in Brazil.) .. I generally present myself online as who I am in real life too - easier that way... I used to enjoy roleplaying "alternate" personalities online, and in mIRC way back when, even tried being a girl, which was quite interesting. It was a bit sad though when I finally revealed my deception to some of the friends I'd made there - they felt betrayed, and rightly so.

Anyway, you'll see, I'm an artist too, using mostly fractals. I'm looking forward to future interaction!

Good luck with your first few weeks here on Steemit! Whatever happens, just be real, and you'll do fine =) (And it seems you're off to a good start already in that regard).

Hi Jody !
I'm glad to meet you and very happy that you made it here and like my intro 🤗
Earning money sure is a plus but it wasn't enough to actually make me wanna come here. It was while talking to @wildempress that I realized I could use steemit to try my hand at something a bit out of my comfort zone and got motivated right away.

Paris is quite something in France. People who live in Paris will say it's the best place in the whole country and people who don't will say it's the worst 😂 For all I can say is that Paris is a very busy an crowded city. There is a lot of diversity, there's always something going on. People who live in Paris tend to be very active and busy people and very goal oriented. The Parisian cliché is one of a very stressed, grumpy man who's already late for an important meeting to which there is some truth I must say haha. For young and energetic minds such as your students I think Paris is great, full of life and activities, new ideas and debates. For some less extrovert and outgoing or people who just like to chill and take their time it can get a bit overwhelming.

I'm glad to hear from another roleplay lover. I did make the mistake once to pretend I was someone I was not and it's a mistake I regret today, but I deeply understand what could lead to that and all that follows.

I'm looking forward to interacting more with you in the future ! I'll definitely check out your work 😉

I feel like I’m going to get to know you in a whole new light 😁 I’m glad you decided to give steemit a try you really have so much to contribute! Did you mention you crochet too!!

Thank you for making me discover it and giving me all the advice. 🤗 I forgot to mention crochet, as many other topics I'm sure 😄 I didn't want to spend too much time on the post to keep it as genuine as possible. I'll add it up as I go I guess !

Hey Artist Writer Chinese Girl, I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold, and you are beautiful and I play guitar and piano and your photo is funny and reminds me of the lazy day nothing song by Bruno Mars. Paris must be, or was, so romantic. I do some art and and web design and filming. Welcome.

welcome to steemit, hope you can give information and good work and interesting to other steemit users, and do not forget always to support all activities in this steemit.

Welcome!!
