Story time/introduce yourself -contest (free SBD and get exposure) -Making steemit more inclusive and welcoming!

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

Greetings fellow steemians.

This post is for new users but also users who have been here a long time to tell your story to the new and also older users.

I m pretty new on this platform, but something that I noticed a lot since I m here is that there are a lot of people struggeling to find their footing here, there is not a very inclusive and welcoming feeling, especially when they are not very technical or just don't feel they get the exposure they deserve. Lets make everyone feel welcome and special!

To try and fix this problem, have some fun, get to know eachother better and promote the steem platform by making it more inclusive I had the idea of making a Story time - introduce yourself contest! So we can all get to know eachother better!

The idea of this contest is, is that everyone who is interested in participating can comment their personal story, or why you use steemit or even talk about your interests or your pet! Be creative

What will happen then is that everyone else can comment on your story by saying 1 point. This will be done instead of upvoting since upvotes can be bought by bots and we want to make this as fair as possible. PLEASE ONLY VOTE 1 TIME

At the end of the contest (this one will run for 7 days). The story with the most points wins!

Rules:

Upvote this post

Follow me (to get updates on this contest and future projects)

Resteeming is optional, but ofcourse we want to reach as many people as possible.

Prize structure:

N1 story: 30% of SBD rewards from this post.

N2 story: 20% of SBD rewards from this post.

N3 story: 10% of SBD rewards from this post.

Giveaway: 15% of SBD rewards from this post. (this will be radomly selected from all participants).

I hope you all enjoy this contest and most of all that everyone using the steemit platform will feel that they get the feeling that they are welcome here and are able to express themselves! Lets create an inclusive steemit community with story sharing and even a possibility of earning some SBD!

Full STEEM ahead!

Aloha! My name is Sharon Leopardi, and I am brand new to Steemit. This looks like a fun contest so I thought I would contribute.
I am stoked on the idea of Steemit as a social media platform as it incentivises us to share instead of us giving away our content without reward like other platforms such as Facebook. For me it motivates me to take the time share my experience and perspectives.

A little bit about me, I live off grid on the Big Island of Hawaii, and lead a simple life. I love working with the land to grow my own food, and also love adventuring and traveling. I have a big for long distance hiking, I completed a 1,900 mile hike across both island of New Zealand called the Te Araroa Trail in 2014-2015 as well as hiking 500 miles of the Continental Divide Trail thru Colorado in 2016. I would love to connect with other Thru-Hikers or those who love backpacking on Steemit, and share some of my knowledge and experience about it. I have come up with loads of great healthy backpacking food recipes and dialed in my ultralight gear.

I am also an avid watcher of the night sky, and have been studying astrology for several years with my current interests leaning to Harmonic/Vibrational astrology. I would love to connect and share with other on that front.
Other interests include tea, food making and foraging, alchemical herbal experiments including spagyrics, dancing, electronic music, beekeeping, nonviolent communication, natural building....this list can go on and change in priority every day!

So glad to be here and look forward to sharing and connecting!

1 point, you sound like a great person and I follwed you and I hope you do the same to watch each others new beginning in steemit journey.

1 point! Wow that sounds amazing! I hope one day to go longboarding, and some surfing on some of the islands, I've heard many great things.

Sounds like you are basically into everything I am into! Woah! except in a much warmer place lol... I love tea, astrology, and I also love Steemit. I have always wanted social media that has value, that has good information and can inspire me on a daily basis. Now I got that, and more! Let us be friends!

Hi there! I'm ddrfr33k, the Ginger Beard Man. I'm kind of a strange fellow, but that gives me my charm.

Everyone loves a tale of triumph. Let me tell you about my brother, David. Back in April of 2008, he was in a nasty car crash. He swerved to avoid a deer, hit a tree, whacked his head on the steering wheel, he was in baaad shape. That's the kind of night no mother ever wants to deal with. She got a call from the county sheriff at about 11:45 at night, informing her that her son is in the pediatric intensive care unit, and that she should come visit right away.

David suffered what's called a Traumatic Brain Injury, or TBI. Basically, it's like a concussion cranked up about 300% or more. He was kept in a medically induced coma for about 3, almost 4 weeks, so the body could take time to heal. He actually missed his Junior Prom that year, completely unconscious.

When he came to, he had to relearn everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING. The things we take for granted, like getting out of bed and putting on a shirt suddenly became monumental tasks for David. He had a long road of recovery ahead of him, and not just in the small things. He was set to graduate from high school the following year, so he had to continue his studies!

Despite the severity of his TBI, and all the setbacks it entailed, he still managed to graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA, even after his crash. Those outside the US, that's basically perfect marks across the board. It's a big deal in the States, as most students are lucky to pull a 3.0. He went on to get a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and he is a shining example of overcoming adversity to do something amazing.

In recent years, he's been my motivation to do something completely crazy. Every November, I do a marathon session of Dance Dance Revolution to raise money for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, one of the hospitals that helped give David his life back. Last year, I raised $570. This year? I'm just shy of $1200. Last November, I ran 12 miles playing DDR, and we raised a little over $1000. According to my FitBit, I burned 5,300 calories, and did about 23,000 steps. IN ONE DAY. I did get one of the local radio personalities to come join in, it was great! He hadn't played DDR since DDRMAX2, so we fired it up just for him to get the nostalgia into it.

We streamed it all! Our stream lasted about 7 hours and 45 minutes, and it's all recorded! I had it up on Vidme, but they're shutting down in 2 days, so I can't really share it here. But, oh well.

It's also not too late to donate, either. If you want to help out, you can make a donation here:

https://www.extra-life.org/participant/ddrfr33k

Every little bit helps, and if you are looking for a charity for an end of year donation, this is a great group to support. CMN Hospitals and clinics write off upwards of $400,000 worth of care per day for families that cannot afford it. When I say $5 can save a kid's life, I mean it. That $5, donated by thousands of people? It adds up to a lot of good!

So yeah, that's my story. It kinda turned into a shameless self promotion at the end, but it's something that's very, very important to me. It's like that one deleted scene from Bruce Almighty. "Triumph comes out of adversity. To paint a pretty picture, sometimes you have to use some pretty dark colors." It was the tragedy of my brother's injury that spurred me to do something great.

Hello, my name is Katrina, yes like hurricane Katrina. I have probably heard them all. Joking aside, I decided to join steemit because FB wasn’t for me any longer and let’s be honest the benefits of steemit is much better. It is a bit to learn but I like a challenge. The other reason I enjoy steemit is I get to express myself and share my positive IAM’s with no judgement.
I live in the United States, I am a newly empty nester whom has devoted my total existence to my children and now it’s time for me to give myself a new life. I just started traveling to different countries, when I get vacation time from work. I work as a Medical Administrator, I have worked in the medical field for 25 years. Oh, I have three children, all brilliant in their own ways and I love that about them.
Thank you for reading and I appreciate this chance to introduce myself. I can’t wait to read other ones as well. Love and light to you all.

Hey you all, you might want to unfollow my old account @charisma11. @drydoc46 hijacked my account and trasferred funds from my account to theirs. I now have this account @charisma1.

1 point

Thank you !

Absolutely!

Welcome I like your post, my introduce myself post is Here

I saw you don’t have a Steemit Profile Picture I made a story post to make it simply to do. Here

Thank you for your interest and suggestions, if you would be able to RESTEEM for more coverage that would be great! And thanks again!

Thanks for sharing this information.

followed, upvote, also resteem all done

Thank you!

Hello you can find my introduction post at to learn a little bit about me:
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@brogowsk/introduction

Below I have written about an autobiography about my desire to pursue medicine:

I was born and raised in Beaver, Pennsylvania; a very small town with approximately 4,500 residents, an hour northwest of Pittsburgh. Neighborhoods are nestled among the beautiful landscape of the Ohio and Beaver Rivers as well as many historic buildings. It’s a very old town with long standing traditions. To this day, Beaver is still a “dry” town and while alcohol may be consumed in town, it cannot be purchased. It is one of the only waterfront areas that does not have any industrial sites or steel mills on its banks that were so popular in the early 1900’s. There is a main road through town where the majority of businesses are located, and if you stop at a restaurant or store, you will mostly likely know the majority of the people.
My parents relocated to the area so we did not have extended family nearby, but living in a small town is like being part of a large family. Everyone knows everything about you, so I always felt supported and cared for. Growing-up in this type of environment, I learned the importance of honesty, integrity and community service. These values are what make me who I am today and define my moral compass. I also understand that a community thrives when individuals positively contribute and give back and one day, I hope to enrich my community by being a physician.
Growing up, my favorite word was “why”. I questioned the world and everything around me by constantly searching for information and examining things from different perspectives. Toys and games were routinely taken apart to see how they were made and how to make them work better. Over the years, this natural childhood curiosity developed into my best traits: a strong work ethic and the ability to identify weaknesses. When faced with a task, I assess each component and identify weak points that can be improved. Constantly seeking new knowledge as a child developed my deep appreciation for science and nature.
As a high school freshman, I wrote a research paper about the theory that humans only use 10% of their brain potential. Although a bit outdated, it sparked my interest in neuroscience immensely. What attracted me to the topic was how much was known about the brain, but also how much there was still to learn. I saw this as an incredible opportunity to make new discoveries. While in high school, I received sports related concussions that resulted in headaches, disorientation and fatigue. To combat the symptoms, I was prescribed three months of vestibular therapies. There’s a part of me that is glad I had to deal with my symptoms and the exhausting therapy because I was presented with the best case a budding neuroscientist could ask for, myself. Additionally, my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Watching him lose his identity was one of the hardest things I have experienced. The feeling of helplessness knowing there is currently no cure drives my passion to combat neurodegenerative disease and I look forward to making a difference.
To obtain a quality undergraduate education, I chose to study Neuroscience at Carnegie Mellon University, which provided exposure to rigorous and diverse courses. Every student, from every major, was required to enroll in a computer programming course. I chose the infamously difficult one to challenge myself on a subject I found interesting. Programing introduced me to the fields of computer vision and machine learning, tools that are invaluable in an ever increasing technological world. As a freshman, I joined the lab of neuroscience professor Dr. Aryn Gittis. I thrived under her supervision and received funding for a variety of projects that culminated in an honors thesis. I was also able to collaborate with students from around the world by being involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities that included: intramural sports, traveling to Nicaragua with the Global Medical Brigades and membership in the organization, NeuroSAC. I am most proud of my involvement with Donut Dash, the largest Greek life fundraiser in the country, completely organized by Sigma Alpha Epsilon. My fraternity was inspired to participate after learning our advisor was diagnosed with the disease. As a three year team leader, I assisted in increasing the participants and money generated from 500 and $20,000 to over 1500 and $175,000. Coming together as a group to raise more money than any other fraternity chapter nationwide, was an incredible team effort I will never forget.
Following graduation, I spent time traveling with friends. One of the highlights was driving the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Upon returning to my hometown, I began working as the head coach for the Beaver Area Middle School boys’ soccer team. I have played and excelled at soccer for many years and enjoy giving back to my community by mentoring young players.
Additionally, I volunteer by presenting youth neuroscience outreach programs to local students once or twice per month. I will also serve as an Alzheimer’s patient volunteer at St. Barnabas Beaver Meadows after the soccer season. I dedicate at least ten hours per week to further my education by reading scientific literature, learning computer programming languages, and learning to play the piano. I am currently applying to Heritage Valley Health System to begin working as a Physician Office Assistant following the soccer season. These experiences will improve my leadership and communication skills and I will gain valuable clinical experience by working closely with physicians, learning medical terminology and observing how a medical practice is managed. My motivation to become a physician began with a passion for the brain and wanting to help others. Shadowing physicians confirmed my desire to dedicate my life to medicine.

Ello fellow steemheads, luckily we are full of more then hot air. In fact, steem is a great power source, and one my dad is always ranting and raving about.

I am Cae, pronounced say, and I live the top of a mountain on an off-grid homestead. Our homestead is called Cedarville, and we are into changing the world, just as soon as we sort out our own >.< I am only 19, and really don't know what I am doing quite yet, I still rely on my dad and the others to survive off the grid. I live with my community members: my father, Mel, Tasha and my boyfriend Ryan. In the summertime other people often come here to stay as well, but since the winter is a bit harsh it is just us fools up here now. And the chickens, goats, cats and dogs of course :P

I really really love to garden, I really love cats, and I really love the mountains! We can hike to the peak of the mountain in just a couple short hours, or at least close. I aspire to be a herbalist, a permaculturist, and to teach others about these things. I like things like astronomy, astrology, botany and other science things. My favorite scientist is Rupert Sheldrake, and if you know who he is, you know what kinda science I am into. I value honesty and friendship more then anything else. I guess that just about sums me up, other then the fact that I watch a lot of anime and learn a lot from books. Thats basically what my blog on here is about, anime, homesteading, art and ancient history, but also lots of other things >.< I am not one to narrow down my interests, my interests are as diverse as the jungle!

Thanks for reading, I hope to make friends with more peeps here on steemit :P

Hi everyone, my name is Daryl.
I joined Steem because I believe in community, and i think Steemit really has an amazing one that I want to be a part of, and i think it will be a great place to tell my story.
See I came from an abusive, and neglectful childhood, and i used to be stuck in the victim mentality. I went down the path of taking drugs, going to raves, and nearly never came back. For years I battled depression and anxiety, but slowly with help from friends, I eventually came out of my shell. I even help many of my party friends to quit drugs, and helped prevent several of them from suicide.
Fastfoward to the present, I now have a successful job, I travel the world longboarding down mountains, and recently I got into trading cryptocurrencies.
If any of this vibes with you, give me a vote, comment, and follow me.
