Well how to start my first steemit article? An introduction of myself to give you an overview of whom you dealing with may be a good starting point. Why that? Because before I read a text I have the habit to look up the author in order to put that text in context. Since there is no information about me online I want to give you my dear reader an impression of me to consider wether you want to continue reading articles or close down your browser and do something productive.
I am 26 year old male studying history and media sciences and aiming to become a journalist. I am based in Germany, am currently unemployed (changes next month yeay) and thus have too much time for writing. Since I am no native speaker please be forgiving with misspelling and grammatical mistakes. At the moment I am obsessed with cryptocurrencies.
How did I come to that hobby you might want to know. I was always interested in computers and loved them since my teenage years. I probably spent more time fixing what I broke due to lack of understanding the machine than doing what I bought the computer for. Honestly I bought it for gaming even though I told my parents I needed it for school. Speaking of which, I was and still am a lazy student and a shitty gamer but at least gaming I do with a lot of passion. I mean who else is willing to defend Azeroth against the burning legion, if not me?
About two years ago I visited a lecture about economical-history. It was about the industrial revolution in Europe a lot of Adam Smiths “Wealth of Nations”, Liberalism, Nationalism and so on. Being in touch with that subject something came clear to me: in order to acquire wealth an individual has several options. For starters you can sell your working power regardless if it is your body (e.g. factory worker, miner) or mind (e.g. lawyer, journalist). At this time I had the pleasure of selling my work power as a dishwasher in a restaurant for minimum wage which is not fun at all. So I was aiming to change that.
Another option is to let people work for you e.g. as a factory owner in the old times or a stock holder nowadays. Obviously this is more enjoyable but there is a key problem with it. In order to let (wo)men work for you, you need to be rich in the first place to make a living out of it. Since I still have no capital to do that nor am I a central bank that can create money out of thin air, this is no option for me.
Good for the sake of me there is a third way of accumulating money. Let a machine do the work for you. Well Marx tells us machines replace workers if they are more cost efficient and more productive than the human worker. Technical development always changed the way we work and live. Seventy years ago a computer filled a whole room now it fits in a pocket and it replaced and/or changed a lot of jobs. I´ll spare you the details of the social and economical impact the personal computer had for now (you may have experienced it yourself), but why not try to let my computer do a little extra money for me. This is how I came in touch with mining digital currencies and my obsession with crypto began.
So what is it a lazy student and former dishwasher who rather lets a computer do the work for him can tell you? Well basically nothing and everything. I certainly don’t have the claim to be any wiser or brighter than anyone on this planet on any specific subject. Anyways my texts aim to entertain and inform. They will have historical subjects. This I can say: my first article will be about the stock market crash of 1929 cause I am currently obsessed with it. So stay tuned if you like!
