A way to be happy- My Introductory Post

in introduction •  7 years ago

I always wanted to do something good from the beginning , something which will make me satisfied. After joining the TCS I came to know about one of the TCS Maitree initiatives of regular teaching during the weekends at Guru Nanak Sewa Sansthan, Gurgaon.

Guru Nanak Sewa Sansthan is Located at Gurgaon in National Capital Region (NCR) of India, the organization Provides free education to more than 400 poor children who are provided free books, writing material, dresses and mid-day meals.

They don’t have any school building and classroom like we have for a normal school. This school runs under a small tent on a plot with no electricity and I was surprised to see the full strength of the students even in the summers which actually show their dedication towards study.
We are a team of around 8 active volunteers who are visiting every Saturday for teaching and sometime during the week days for some kind activities.

I still remember my first day at the NGO where I was supposed to teach 7th class.
I started my class with the math’s and I was surprised to see the IQ level of 5-6 students (total 10 students). They were very good at mathematics. I came to know about this when I had given few questions to solve after teaching them a chapter and they were so quick in solving those problems.
One of the students Jyoti really impressed me in every subject I had taught to them.

Best reward I got in back from the student was - ‘Sir Aap please Monday ko b padaane aana ‘(Please come on Monday as well for teaching us)

If you talk to them you’ll know how bright they are. Some of them are extremely good in art. Others are good with numbers. But all are so dedicated and have a hunger to learn something new every day.

I had words with MR. Khurana Sir (owner of the NGO) about the students and then I came to know that around 200 students of the school have cleared the tests of some reputed schools of Gurgaon and are continuing their education after class 9 from these schools. In addition to this Students of Sansthan have been recognised as ‘MENSA Scholars’ by MENSA an international organisation that has a system to check the IQ of students.

Teaching at the GNSS has taught me below
– To see a person smile, and to know you contribute something for that smile, gives ultimate joy and internal satisfaction.
– Not everything is done to get returns; social work and charity has a value.
