Introduction and Newly Found Obsession of Bitcoins

Hey Everyone,

My name is Odi Lehasa and I'm an Information Systems Masters student in South Africa. I signed up with Steemit about a month or two ago and I wasn't quite sure what to write for my first post, as I wanted it to be something worth reading (and writing ofcourse).

Everyone has been going crazy over Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin) in particular, for a while now and let me tell you, I was one of the sceptics. About 3 months ago I decided to go in for the plunge and try it out with R100 (the equivalent of $7). I wasn't about to risk my serious monthly allowance on something that I was struggling to truly conceptualise.

Needless to say, I started seeing my R100 turn into R120, then R140. So, obviously my excitement led me to pump in more of my allowance money into this, thinking this would be the trend. However, one little thing I failed to think of during my Bitcoin high, is that the price does fluctuate. My heart was never ready for this. I then decided to forget about the money I had invested and just let the markets 'do the thing that markets do'...correct themselves, because then again I can't remember the slightest thing I was taught in Economics.

Now jump forward from August to late October when I decided to have a look at 'the markets', only to discover that the price of 1 bitcoin had almost doubled since I last checked. So to be specific, when I first started trading, the price of one Bitcoin was R58,000 (about $4000) and 3 months later, it reached a high of R119,000 (about $8,500) in South Africa.
Obviously I jumped back on faster than I joined. Telling anyone who cared to listen about investing in Bitcoins. You'd think I was getting paid for marketing or something. I mean, I did manage to get one or two people on the bandwagon.

Well here I am now, back at it, checking markets on the hour, by the hour, and sometimes twice in an hour. And by checking the markets I simply mean, refreshing my screen to see the price change :) and occasionally reading a few articles here and there. I'm so invested in this that my heart literally skips a few beats as I hold my breath and hope for a change in trajectory from what seems like a possible loss.

But for now, I'm just secrectly happy about the cancelation of the launch of SegWit2x. Now, we can all just sit back and watch Bitcoins and blockchain technology shoot through the roof. I do believe that this is the future and not just a fad.

I guess the purpose of this whole saga is just to say hey, introduce myself and tell you a bit about my new hobby (obsession).

P.S. I totally replaced my obsession of Instagram with my Trading App. Apparently billionaires don't have time to watch TV. I get it now.
