My Introduction to Steemit!

in introduction •  8 years ago

Hello Steemit community! My name is Milan Sharma, and I am a student of junior high school interested in politics. Yes I know, politics is a very broad subject matter! I first became inspired to research politics from the comedian Jon Stewart. Stewart was masterful at using satire to discredit the mainstream media talking points. From this I learned never to trust the media head drawn conclusions at first sight. For example, the media went crazy in pushing an anti-Russian agenda to excuse Clinton's loss in the latest presidential election, without any conclusive evidence. The CIA was only "highly confident" in their assessment, and James Clapper (fmr. CIA Director) said no evidence was presented to justify the United States red scare tactics. Now I would have thought the role of the free press is to hold our government officials accountable, right? Wrong! The Washington Post just re-iterated the CIA's talking points on headlines, while providing very little editor notes stating that the headlines were controversial. That's not all! In fact, the media has used these same tactics in regards to U.S foreign policy. For example, the alleged claim that Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad is implicated in the chemical attacks has gone mainstream! There has not been an independent investigation into the matter! It makes me laugh a government official like Nikki Haley claims to care about the deceased children, but keeps her mouth shut when the Saudi regime oppresses and displaces millions of people in Yemen.
