Reintroducing Myself

in introduction •  6 years ago  (edited)

My name is Daniel and I live on a small island on the coast of Georgia. I'm a single guy that enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. I joined Steemit at the encouragement of a long time friend and at first I had no clue what I was doing here but over the last few months I've met some really cool people and made a few interesting connections with people all over. I'm still working on getting a better understanding of the do's and don'ts of Steemit but I am getting there. I'm using it as more of a social platform rather than a way to get money but it's fun seeing the value rise. Who knows, maybe I'll make a few bucks down the line.

My interests include anything that makes me laugh, I'm an avid reader and I like science fantasy and legal and political fiction. Lately I've been reading a lot of trashy romance novels because politics and legal fiction remind me of the dire circumstances the US is facing as of late and I just need something that requires less thinking for the time being.

I also enjoy the beach and swimming and spending time with my large extended family and friends. I live in a close knit community and love how my neighbors are always helping each other. My small island was hit with flooding twice in the last two years and it's been devastating for quite a few people. I'm only getting back to my own house a few months ago after having several inches of water flood my home from hurricanes. I was luckier than most people in the neighborhood and only lost a few things that more than likely I could afford to get rid of anyhow.

I work at a small fine dining restaurant as a server. I'll be celebrating fifteen years there next month. It's a great little place with some awesome co-workers that are just like family to me. I have some fantastic regular customers that make the job even more fun and I basically get paid to socialize. What's not to like? I'm a big jokester at work and that's where the handle, the-witty-waiter comes from. I definitely keep them coming back year after year and more.

Hopefully you enjoyed reading a little bit about me. If you would like to know more, just post a question in the comments section. I like the interaction and will try to reply in kind. Peace.

Welcome and it's good to see people using steemit for what it was designed for. As a social platform.

It's a shame the barrier to entry is so high right now with the terrible sign up process. Who has 2-3 weeks to wait for a login in this day and age? @steeminc @ned. This just isn't good enough.

There's a bit of a steep learning curve, but generally if you act like a decent human being you will do well here and maybe even make more than a few bucks ;)

@kabir88

Thanks very much @kabir88. I agree with your assessment and appreciate your idea

Hi the-witty-waiter! (Sorry for contacting you through this). I read your previous article about why you steem. Thanks a lot for your sincere sharing! That was so much helpful!

If you have time, can you please spend some time on completing a survey? We’re currently doing a survey research on why we keep steeming. It’s a 5-minute survey: https://goo.gl/H1XeJi

BTW, every participant will receive 1 SBD. In addition, you will join a raffle of 10 SBD (selecting 10 people). You can read more details about our survey here: https://goo.gl/kDu364

If you can help us with our research, we would very much appreciate that.

Hopefully @mysearchisover finds me here

Nice intro, nice post. I joined Steemit 6 months ago.
Your first paragraph applies to me too. Cheers!

Great intro post.

Appreciate it. Peace!

nice

howdy there @the-witty-waiter! this is a really good re-introduction, love the details and approach, great job!

Appreciated. It's your fault I had to make a proper introduction. LoL. Actually, now that I know my way around a bit better, I figured I should update

I thought it was great. did you just get off work?

I did work tonight. It was a good evening. I was in high demand by my regulars. It's nice to feel appreciated

oh that's interesting witty-waiter, that you have regulars, do most of them just come in once a week? and are there some that you've known since you started there 15 years ago?

oh something else too witty-waiter..alot of us here appreciate you!

Thanks. I have some regulars that come in weekly or a few times a year or yearly. Mostly, it's every few weeks. I ham it up for the ones that want to be entertained but I also know when they just want great service and attention. Even the ones that grate my nerves want me to be their server. LoL

lol! this is so interesting witty-waiter because you are actually an entertainer at the same time you're doing an important and difficult job while you balance your words and attitude to match those of your customers whom you have undoubtedly learned to "read" in a few moments of being at the table.
you should write a book!

I keep thinking about recording myself because honestly, half the humorous things I say just fall out of my mouth without even thinking about it. I have a few jokes that I use on the regular but most of the time it's just improvisation

Hi...nice to meet you :)
