Allan Nairn is an American investigative journalist who had been imprisoned during the Soeharto era because of his report on the East Timor conflict. Allan Nairn's writings focus on US policies in countries such as Haiti, Guetamala, Indonesia and East Timor.

In 1980, Nairn flew to Guatemala and witnessed the massacre of military dictatorships against workers, peasants, students, and intellectuals. From there he is aware of Washington's funding and arms support for the brutal regimes of the world.

November 12, 1991, Allan Nairn and Amy Goodman have been victims of violence committed by the Indonesian army. It happened during the Santa Cruz Massacre, the massacre of East Timor demonstrators at the Santa Cruz cemetery.

Since then, Nairn has been banned in East Timor because it is considered a national threat by the Indonesian government. But he re-entered illegally into East Timor at the time. In 1993, Nairn's report helped convince the US Congress to cut off military aid to Jakarta.

In addition to the report from East Timor on March 30, 1998, Nairn said US military training was continuing to the Indonesian military involved in the torture and killing of civilians.
