How to Power Up when you can't power up from the wallet

in investing •  8 years ago  (edited)

I'm seeing a lot of people being outraged at the fact they are currently missing out on powering up because the feature is disabled from the wallet. However, you can still power up from the top-right menu's "Buy Steem Power" button.

Nothing is stopping you from :

  • signing up on an exchange
  • depositing your steem on the exchange
  • exchanging it to bitcoin/bitshares/ether
  • sending it (withdrawing it) to your Steem Power wallet via the "Buy Steem Power" button from the top-right menu?

Go ahead and spread the gospel!

Just a tip. Break out the calculator and do the math before any trade.
Blocktrades can be very expensive if liquidity is low.
The buy steem power feature uses blocktrades.
You get a much better exchange rate if you go to Bittrex.com and put in an order manually. A little patience can make you 10% more steem...

True. Just saying the feature is there if anyone needs it. Anyhow, looks like transfers are live again.

Askiing this as a newbie but, i did that a couple days ago and the exchange is horrible? as i'm doing the match, the difference is almost a 50%... Not that i care as it was not much money and that i really believe in the potential here, but just wanted you to know. If someone can add some light, my vote to him will go, as will Yoda say.

I personally use bittrex (this is also what the backend of this site uses) and I'm not sure where you take your 50% but the current steem/btc exchange rate right now is : 1 steem = 0.00459969 BTC (1).

Keep in mind that this value changes all the time so your steem might be worth more or less BTC depending on when you exchange it. And of course, using an exchange means you have to pay a transaction fee but those are normally very low (<1% (2)).
