I Think I’ve Been Robbed? Do I Call A Crypto Cop?

in iota •  6 years ago  (edited)

Either my smartphone IOTA wallet was somehow hacked or I sleepwalked and don’t remember sending all my IOTA to an exchange or something.
I’ve been robbed, I think? I really am not prepared for this drama!
Simply put, all i know is i thought i was all ready for the big, much talked about with fanfare “PROOF OF KEYS DAY” planned for Jan. 3rd! I have been thinking about it and planning for it at least the past week. I had decided to convert my humble little crypto stakes and hold them not in Bitcoin but rather in IOTA instead bc i expected iota price to outperform the top cryptos including bitcoin during that period only until at least friday, the day after “proof of keys” day! But today after going to dmv and then to visit my aunt who lives near there i looked to see how high the iota price was because it had been rising 10% since i bought it yesterday and it was ALL gone from my wallet including the small amount that was already there from a few weeks ago. It had all been sent somewhere in one transaction.
So far the exchange support team is investigating for me and it’s too soon for them to respond. i’m posting this content now and will update as soon as i can.

This has been a shocking revelation for me since i consider myself very knowledgable in crypto obsessed since early 2017! At this point i have no idea how i was hacked. IOTA is a crypto i find very difficult to understand and i don’t know where to begin investigating the missing funds. all i have are the transaction record of the funds sent out from my wallet with the timestamp, amount and receiving address. I don’t know of there have been other victims nor proper procedures in this situation. i will update again later.

there is nothing new significant enough to report other than my case appears to be an isolated event and in review i doubt it was a software phish although the trinity wallet i don’t think is yet apple approved because it’s not installed through the app store. i am now suspecting a cause inadvertently created by myself details of which i must withhold in the hope that i first could somehow leverage the information to be awarded a bug bounty or be a benefactor of crypto-losers recovery fund and /or scam victim’s relief fund. I see no other way to recover my losses. i’m a disabled senior citizen on a fixed low income and the loss represents a several month set back for me! Sorry for crudeness of writing i priortized timeliness ahead of beauty. (to be updated)
Update 1/15/2019
Sorry I have taken so long to finish this story. It is too embarassing! The fact is I had forgotten I was testing the wallet and had left a few coins as bait to see if they would disappear again. Subsequently in my carelessness I forgot to double-check myself and mistakenly re-used a compromised iota address sending a substantial sum of iota withdrawn from my exchange account that I had forgotten but should have remembered and instead gave more consideration to “proof of keys day”. Poor me. It’s a cold hard truth about cryptocurrencies. One mistake and it’s all gone! Pretty brutal!
