"Taipei partners with IOTA to become a smart city driven by the Blockchain"

Taipei, Taiwan seeks to become a smart city using the power of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), or Blockchain. The city has chosen to partner with IOTA, the inventors of the so-called Angular Technology for the Internet of Things (IoT), to provide a host of new technological features for the inhabitants.

Wei-bin Lee, Commissioner of the Information Technology Department of the Taipei City Government, suggested in an official press release that the "unique technology" offered by IOTA will usher in a "new era of smart cities for citizens from Taipei. "

The first project on the list is the creation of citizen identity cards built with Tangle technology. Called "TangleID" cards, the creation is designed to eliminate the risks of identity theft and election fraud, while at the same time providing a simple means to track health history and other data for government-related services.

The company is already working on a project for the city to create a hand-sized card with sensors that detect light, temperature, humidity and contamination. The purpose of the design is to provide Taipei citizens with up-to-date information on pollution levels in real time.

The co-founder of the IOTA Foundation, David Sønstebø, sees adoption as a great step forward, noting that "technology is ready for cases of real use and is more than a theory".

"HACKERS STEAL ABOUT $ 4 MILLION IN IOTA TO DECEASED USERS"

A significant number of IOTA users lost their funds after websites specializing in seed generation gave them new words to access their wallets. This left the funds deposited in each of them at the mercy of the attackers. The total of the stolen is equivalent to about 4 million dollars.

Since a couple of days ago the voice of this theft was spread after users of this cryptocurrency saw their purses empty or with losses related to unknown transactions. The victims shared a common characteristic: they had obtained the seed of their IOTA purse through some unofficial website.

This type of portals provides users with a quick solution to generate a new seed for their IOTA wallet, since the platform does not have an automated process for it (an important lack in the operation of the cryptocurrency protocol). With these tools users can create a seed of 81 characters, although the IOTA team has insisted on the need to avoid this type of operations.

The perpetrators took advantage of this feature, and in the midst of a DDoS attack, they drained the resources deposited in the portfolios that had done this procedure.
