I've never liked Trump as a man or as a candidate.

At least among Iowa Republicans willing to go out for an hour in subzero temperatures for their choice, Trump got 50-something, and DeSantis and Haley both about 20.

Trump, I've never liked and never will, either as a man or as a candidate. However, I don't think he was particularly bad as a President compared to other Presidents of my lifetime on balance, and I'm not the least bit scared of it happening again.

DeSantis I used to respect some as a competent and successful Governor, but his backslide into a cartoonish caricature of his worst culture warrior virtue signalling impulses seems pretty complete and it's gross.

Nikki Haley I actually like... outside of foreign policy. Like... you know... the policy bits that seem most important to her and probably the most important aspect of the modern Presidency to consider. She'd make a great President if we could just remove the commander-in-chief bits and return decisions of war and peace to the legislature.

I'd prefer any of the three over Biden by a significant amount, but not enough to actually pull the lever, especially in a non-swing state. Like... I'm not joking that if these are the options, I'd rather go Afroman, Kennedy, Deez Nuts, or random LP loser candidate.

Over the past year, I feel like I've traded a lot of my political obsession for things like history and writing, and feel better about that choice every time I hear how things in politics are going.
