Chinese Consumers Outfoxed by Chinese CounterfeiterssteemCreated with Sketch.

The irony of what's reported in this June 7, 2017 article titled, "Chinese Factories Fake Shipping Addresses to Sell Counterfeit Air Jordans" posted on Jing Daily, and written by Yiling Pan, (and previously reported in Beijing Youth Daily on June 4, 2017) cannot be denied.

It reports that often Chinese consumers prefer to purchase brand products with shipping addresses from locations outside China in order to avoid Chinese manufactured counterfeits. Except, the Chinese counterfeiters outsmart these Chinese consumers by essentially creating counterfeit shipping labels that give the appearance of originating from anywhere else on the globe other than China.

How about this alarming quote, “As long as you are willing to pay, you can have your products shipped from anywhere you want,” the Beijing Youth Daily wrote, “Japan, Korea, and even Mars. That’s not a problem at all.”

You can't make this stuff up!

And here's another quote from the article: "...some Chinese logistics firms have helped these counterfeiters manipulate their shipping addresses. The service allows merchants to put different shipping addresses on the receipts, which has long been one of crucial methods that consumers have for verifying a product’s authenticity. What’s more, these merchants also set up fake online tracking websites for customers to check the status of their “overseas” shipping..."

This counterfeit strategy reminds me a bit of 419 Nigerian fraud in which the victim receives an email with the name of a well-known U.S. or Western bank embedded in it that gives the victim a sense of its authenticity.
