Recently the IPhone 7 was released and as usual came with it's own bit of controversy. One of the most debated changes to the phone itself is the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Like most advances in technology, when something that has been a standard is removed, there is a period of adjustment that is usually accompanied by a lot of complaints and protests before it becomes accepted, tolerated, and eventually forgotten. A good example of this aside from the removal of the headphone jack from the IPhone 7 is the PC keyboard and mouse and the shift from the previous standard connectors to USB connectors.

In the case of the IPhone 7, it is being reported that some people were so against the change and removal of the headphone jack that they blindly followed the advise of a Youtube video that users could restore the 3.5mm headphone jack that was removed by drilling a hole in the bottom of their phone where the headphone jack once was.

The video (whose creator is known for finding ways to destroy phones and other tech) demonstrates the process of locating and drilling a hole in the spot revealing a hidden socket where the headphone jack once was and is now covered by the new bezel. He goes on to plug his white apple headphones into the slot to show that the IPhone 7 is still functional and plays music - although the sound is coming from the speakers and not the headphones.

The result - several of his followers and viewers begin drilling holes into the bottom of their new iPhones causing irreparable damage. Although it is unverified if these people are actually that gullible and have actually followed the videos advice to drill a hole in their phone, I'm not too surprised or doubtful that there are people in the world who are as clueless as this.

Below is a link to the actual Youtube video, which because of the controversy has gone viral.

Below are just some of the responses and comments that Taras Maksimuk also known as TechRax has gotten on his Youtube channel and Twitter.

“WTF??? Fuck you! My screen turned black the moment I started drilling and now I can’t even open it.”

“TECHRAX YOU PIECE OF SHIT I DID THIS AND THE SOUND DOESN NOT WORK AT ALL,” said Artur.

This is not the first time gullible people have been targeted and convinced to do foolish and idiotic things that defy common sense. Other examples are iOS 7 update magically makes your iPhone waterproof and microwaving your smartphone to enjoy longer battery life.

I smell conspiracy in this - just to get more people to watch.
I heard about this but didn't click on the video so as not be counted as one more view. :-)

Not my video - I think the Youtube video has gotten enough views as well. It was just interesting to see how many people actually believed it
